Yes it is, JonnyL. The previous post was just a couple of Midlanders talking about the make up of the Central ITV Region, but there is a connection:
There is an overlap in south Lincolnshire between the new Hull-based BBC TV Region and the Central East/East Midlands Today area. Also in previous posts I was talking about Lincolnshire not really being a Northern county and that it shouldn't be in the East Midlands because there is a coastline.
But you're right in the sense that M D R and TV Mercia were drifting away from the topic of this thread, though I'm partly to blame because of what I said about Lincolnshire.
Well if the BBC East (Norwich) patch was reduced to only cover Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and most of Essex, it would make more sense if BBC East (Hull) shared with Norwich.
This does actually make illogical sense. Our railway franchise region is changing to something called Anglia/Humber!
The new half hour programme from Hull WILL be called `BBC Look North` - According to the researchers it is a good strong brand. Presented from Hull but with the Gallery operation in Leeds. Its due for launch around Spetember/October. They've just advertised for presenters. And for Katherine, Paul Hudson will appear in both programmes.
If it starts in...erm November (these things always get pushed back!), what studios is it going to come from, I wasn't aware the present Hull Studios had anything decent?
If the Wrekin area went to Granada, this region could have two sub-regions- north and south. North for Lancashire, south Cumbria, maybe Merseyside and Manchester and around there. South for Cheshire, north Wales, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
Your argument is flawed because The Wrekin transmitter serves the Midlands counties of Shropshire (almost fully) and Staffordshire (just a part). It's also received, as the first choice, in many parts of the West Mids County & Worcestershire.
The local population generally look to the West Midlands and Birmingham for work & leisure and could never be considered to be part of 'Granadaland'.
Cheshire and parts of NE Wales generally look to Winter Hill and not to The Wrekin.

This would create a Central region which was truly CENTRAL.
The Central Region is already truly CARLTON!

Just a question, In Tune:
How do you know what the title of the programme will be called? Who told you? When I e-mailed Look North (Leeds), I was told: "As always establishing the name of a programme is the key to its having impact and relevance. All theses aspects under consideration at the moment."
If what you say is true, In Tune, then the BBC is making a BIG mistake. Look North is NOT a good name for the Belmont TX area (aka the new Hull-based BBC TV Region) because MOST of the area served is not in the North of England. It is an area which I can only describe as the EAST OF ENGLAND. That in brief is my argument for why the programme should be called Look East and not Look North. For more details see my earlier posts in this thread.
BBC if you've chosen Look North as the title of the new regional news programme from Hull, then DAMN YOU!!!!!
Rubbish!!!! Thanks to the introduction of digital television, I think it is perfectly possible to alter Britain's TV Transmitter network, geography permitting. I think Sandy Heath can be dismantled and replaced by a transmitter near Northampton and one near Cambridge, This way the anomaly of Anglia TV's (and of Look East (Norwich)) presence in Northants can finally be eliminated.
What is it with you and your hatred of BBC East/Anglia in Northamptonshire?
Northamptonshire is covered very well by both of the above and people actually like the coverage it gets on both BBC and Anglia, and because of the opt's/split regions, most news is from the west of the region.
There is no reason to get rid of Sandy Heath, even the relay in Northampton relays BBC East/Anglia, so forget that idea. As for putting up 2 new transmitters in Cambs and Northants, what do you expect everyone who uses Sandy Heath to do? Get new aerials?
An example of a bulletin the other day on Anglia was one story coming from Spalding in Lincs, then another from Harlow in Essex, thats how big the Sandy Heath area is.
