Interesting to note them say "it's a much smaller studio than the one we used to be in". I wonder if the studio downsizing is in part due to cost cutting reasons, or just more that it's practical to use a smaller studio for VR.

The green walls in that video look like a very permanent set up to me, I wonder if this is the idea for Blue Peter to adopt VR too or at least a back drop. I caught Blue Peter the other week and it felt like Blue Peter of old in a larger studio with a trapeze performer (thought that goes well off topic).
I assume this has come about because they didnāt want to use a small looking set in HQ7, though after the years in HQ3 and then curved projector wall in TVC it would look like a downgrade.
It was interesting how Dan mentioned football programmes would be coming from there, then thinking about it I canāt remember the HQ3 set being used for anything other than football, where the old TVC sets would be. Is it a done thing that other sports are presented on location only?

Isn't some sports coverage done using the secondary studio in the sports newsroom and also another area of the building BBC Sport are in at Media City?

Yes. The HQ3 set was used for Six Nations highlights this year - and there are highlights of England v Wales tomorrow but I suspect that'll be done from Twickenham.
Must say none of these sets beat the real sports news set. Will be interesting to see what happens with Blue Peter - the original plan was they'd share the studio with the virtual set build into the BP set after they're done with theirs each week rather than BP going virtual. I think the fact it's not been mentioned as a possible Breakfast set shows it's not that endearing, but a virtual set gives them a possible place to decap too if they ever do revamp their existing space. Indeed don't want to go down that route too much in this thread but the BBC North West/Breakfast Studio must be one of the oldest regional sets in the country now?

I think it's a hybrid arrangement - the BP set is pretty minimalist so they can hang a green cyc in front of it for Sport.
