If your talking about Look North being particularly boring this evening then today wasnt exactly a big news day.

No...when I have seen it in the past it's been boring then as well.
I thought the deaths of those soldiers in Iraq was quite a big story.
There jiust seems to be no enthusiasm from the people on the programme. I hate to say it but they could learn a thing or two from Harry and Christa and their team and from Tyne Tees.

We couldn't say that a few weeks ago, not without severe reprisals.....

I'm in agreement with EmleyMoor on this one - LN Newcastle seemed to lack the 'oomph' that Leeds or Hull had. Yes, they're professional, but they haven't yet learned about the 'cult of the personality'...

Very true Katherine...they really are so stiff and hardly ever crack a smile. And why do they wave their hands about when they sit at the desk with the screen behind them? It's fine when they are standing up but looks odd when they are behind the desk.
They also tend to do items that have been on Tyne Tees a few days before - so slow. What's going on at that place?

Perhaps the Beeb's carrier pigeons have gone on strike? Wink

IMO, Look North is a fine programme, but it hasn't been the same since "the personality" (Mike Neville) left to join TTTV in 1996 - he was, to many, Mr Look North. I often watch NET followed by LN, and Mike Neville on NET just has the edge over Look North; though to be fair, Carol Maila, Lara Rostron et al over on BBC1 do a fine job but it just lacks that extra bit of sparkle.

LN is in a no-win situation as it covers parts of two adjacent ITV regions (Tyne Tees and Border) and any stories in these areas are likely to be aired first by NET and Lookaround respectively.

(And yes, I know that they do cover York too, but the only reason LN and NET run stories from there is for those in North Yorks who can't get LN Leeds or Calendar - ie served by Bilsdale, and not Emley Moor....)

Oh no...no more Bilsdale rants ! Very Happy
Makes you wonder what TTTV will do when Mr Nev retires. Any suitable replacements?
Haven't seen any on screen!

Don't worry - mine are reasoned arguments; our dear departed friend David H refused to accept that York - where he was at Uni - is officially in YTV territory, despite us arguing the facts (that Bilsdale was originally a YTV mast) until we were blue in the face! Very Happy

Mike can't be that far off retirement - he's in his late 60s IIRC. The one I think most likely to replace him is Pam Royle (who anchors the Bilsdale NET optouts and also fills in for Mike when he takes his annual leave) as she's proven her worth as a news anchor and also has the pedigree of Northern Life and Tyne Tees Today behind her, making her the ideal person to take over from Wor Mike IMO.

Notable on tonight's Calendar News and Sport was a report from Jonathan Morrell. It was about something in North Yorkshire so was it also shown on North East News?

To be brutally honest, they look like they're doing the show at gunpoint!

How true. Come on guys...smile...and make the show more interesting.
Having said that I do like the Newcastle Inside Out - that is really good!
