The tennis going to 3 sets means a scheduling clash with the rugby so at 4.55 Final Score goes to the red button, tennis moves to BBC1 and BBC2 go to the rugby just before kick-off.

Mentioned this in the sport thread but Murrays match continuing beyond the scheduled BBC2 slot meant it moves to BBC1, and their inability to play a set within an hour will now have knock-on effects for tonights BBC1 schedule.

The news is already late and I suspect they'll want to keep Strictly on time, but also not great PR to drop a 70-minute best bits compilation of Children in Need. The EPG now suggests a 50 minute version will air at 6.05pm if the tennis wraps up soon (final tie break beginning now).

Looks like the tennis is overrunning as currently the weekend news is supposed to be on according to the BBC website. I'm guessing that the Children in Need highlights may get rescheduled, as I can't see a lot of flexibility in tonight's schedules.

The easiest option is probably to run late throughout. I'd be surprised if they have shorter edits of CiN Best Bits available, though quite surprised they'd get 70 mins out of that anyway.

I guess they'll either replace CiN with Pointless or run 25 mins late all night.

Looking at the programme info the CiN highlights is still listed as a 70 minute programme. Given the short turnaround time I'd be surprised if they'd made a shorter edit. In theory they could show in on Sunday in the Planet Earth repeat slot and pinch 10 minutes from somewhere. However the Rugby on before that is the finals, which I imagine could potentially last longer than scheduled.

Isn't really a slot tomorrow unless they dropped the Planet Earth repeat, which seems unlikely.

Cracking match.

But yes, I'd say the 6.55pm junction for Strictly is pretty critical so perhaps it'll be news at 6.05pm, and Celebrity Mastermind or the like at 6.25pm.

Not the first time this particular session of tennis has caused problems because of a rugby match following. 5pm kick-off leaves very little flexibility.

Its so often feast or famine for BBC Sport these days - so many weekends with no live sport whatsoever, then weekends like this when there's too much to squeeze in.

Even Sue thinks it's dragging. CiN confirmed for BBC2 at 2pm tomorrow.

Pointless Celebrities is currently now scheduled for 6.05pm, though at this rate may not be shown.

According to Sue the CiN highlights will now be on tomorrow at 2pm on BBC Two.

Not many half hour filler shows available nowadays to the BBC. Aunties Bloomers used to do that trick, and that would be rather apt but of course they rush off air so probably enough time for Pointless. They even had just the one trailer before the news.

How did the news channel cope with the last hour?
