Is it me or do certain channels like QUEST, CITV, Dave, ITVBe, and ITV2+1 have very low resolution and bitrate and then they start to pixelate and glitch?

All but Dave are on COM4/SDN, which is the most compressed multiplex with up to 18 videostreams running at the same time. When there's not enough bandwidth to spread around, you do notice it - especially on fast moving or detailed sequences.

Frustratingly that might be the solution even though ours was only bought at DSO. It might actually be an issue with the box too as it does seem to break up more than others in the house, but it's only a major issue on these new BBC frequencies when we hadn't really had an issue before.

Still pisses me off that terrestrial TV has to sacrifice space to provide services to your 40/50/60 inch main TV screen just so video content can be watched on your 4/5/6 inch screen.

It Pisses me if more as the band was cleared for mobile services , that the government did not follow the Vaizey plan and lever the DTT platform to T2 emission & AVC/AAC at the same time ..
That would have increase the quality .....

I have had some fun during lockdown watching a few FTA channels I hadn't previously watched much.

'Horror' is one of them, which appears to have become a clone of the original 'Bravo', with excellent repeats of many sci-fi programmes of the past - including the (sometimes laughable) 'Space:1999' which was a mixture of Thunderbirds models, and live action with people wearing flared trousers. Bless. Laughing

Horror's idents and pres is actually good. Far beyond what you would expect from such a low-rating channel. Perhaps they should call it '5Horror' and promote it further on the other ViacomCBS channels.

It's odd that it's not called CBS Horror, considering it's presentation package and logo matches the CBS branded channels.

The reason they aren't branding them as 5 is because Viacom only part own them, they're co-owned by AMC Networks (formerly Chello Zone).

They’re available in Ireland too, Channel 5-branded channels are strictly U.K.-only (well not that strictly, you can get them on free to air satellite and manual tuning on Sky).

I wonder why they are willing to let them be carried by Swiss operators but not Irish? From day one Channel 5 has had an official attitude that Ireland isn’t part of its broadcast area and it doesn’t make its channels available here. It is virtually the only major U.K. TV broadcaster without any presence in Ireland (even ITV, despite its deal with VMTV, retains a presence in its own right through ITV3&4’s continued availability on cable). Even Paramount is affected. Why would Switzerland not have the same issues?

Or is there a local law that allows cable companies to retransmit free to air satellite channels without permission?

The latter. You'll find most UK FTA channels on Swiss lineups.

Switzerland also have channels from France, Italy, Austria and Germany, although some French and German channels have local distribution deals which allow Swiss advertisers on them. TF1, M6 and RTL spring to mind.
