hat would be the cause of the fault, as it went to the Greenwich data switching centre caption on STV, before going to the ITV caption, and then finally the Oops caption on STV.
I would question why it's newsworthy, but us pres fans know how uncommon breakdowns like this are becoming nowadays. I am struggling to believe Phil only found out on Twitter that they were off air. Surely someone must've told him from the gallery and he's just plugging the social media presence.

He might well have assumed (as Huw Edwards quite correctly did a few months ago) that they were still live on some platforms, and carried on regardless ?
UTV viewers sat complete silence the whole time as we don’t have live continuity measures, not even some music!
Which is appalling really.

Stv don't have live ca either but there are automatic systems in place within 1min.
There do have back log of recorded ca by Maggie in case of troubles. There has been few times a live ca has been found during the day. Most likely office staff.
Surely it wouldn’t be too difficult for ITV to play a pre-recorded apology out to UTV (or even dirty their feed and make “network-safe” announcements).

All entertainment journalists watch This Morning like a hawk, so they can write five stories about out of context incidents. This was an occasion there was actually an incident that was in context.
Would UTV have been left in silence in the pre-ITV owned days?

It's not newsworthy at all. People just like to hear about things when they go utterly wrong. It's our culture.
It's the BBC's attention that I found surprising. Sesspits like the Metro and Mail Online lose their s**t if somebody so much blinks on ITV before 1:30.

As I type, it's the third most read story on the BBC News UK site.
