Kirsty Youngs coughing fit on Five news 9pm

Did anyone catch Kirsty Young and her coughing and spluttering at the end of Five News at 9 ?. She had just been talking about Tesco and their new policy about employee sickness and then said she might be taking one herself tomorrow which was quite funny the coughing went on for about 10 secs and then she eventually composed herself .

Go on gal, get it out ya system!

I didn't see it but I can imagine them counting down to the end now - "10, 9, 8... that's it from five news, *cough cough* 6, 5, 4.. *cough cough cough* 2, 1..."

If it's between the Orchestral Orgasm and Kirsty's Coughing, I think I'd go with the coughing.

Yeah but as ever she was very cool and made the comment about "taking a sickie herself tomorrow maybe "off the back of the Tesco story about employee sickness which was realy funny i thought.

She really IS pretty dire, isn't she.

Promoted to ITV, then rapidly DEmoted again, back to the channel with the same number of viewers as it's name.

I assume she'll just end up on the scrap heap when five move to Sky for their news.

She was promoted and then wanted to go back to Channel 5/5/Five - it's not always the best thing moving to the biggest. She's certainly at home on the fifth channel. She may not be the best but she is definitely capable of her job - I can think Natasha of some Kaplinsky examples of those who are not so capable.

Hmm - an interesting take - but not entirely correct.

I'm neither a Kirsty fan, nor a basher, but :

I believe that she moved back to Five from ITV1 both because she wanted to, and because Five wanted her back.

I also believe that Kirsty is contracted directly to Five, rather than ITN, and will definitely be part of the new Sky News produced FiveNews output. (I think Five pick up her salary rather than ITN or Sky?)

Admitedly when Kaplinsky first came to BBC News, i thought that they had made a big mistake. She seemed too cheeesy, and fluffy etc. She seemed to bring the standard of Breakfast down. She still does, but after watching her on the weekend news she seems much better and more capable on a 'proper' news bulitin, rather than discussion news, and i think she will become a bigger part of BBC News over the next few years.

Some presenters, a la Paxman, suit discussion, some like Kaplinsky suit straight news.

Okay, fair point there, as I understand it.

I still stick firmly to my point that she's not my cup of tea as a presenter, though.

She and Anna Ford, who's fan club I accidently stumbled into on here about a year ago, both come into my "nil points" category, I'm afraid.

She can out do Mary Knightingale (with all those nervous gulps and shakes she has) Mary is NOT a confident performer and she has the edge on all the rest of the ITV lot anyday she is cool confident and can think on her feet .

Kirsty Young was NOT demoted from ITV news they got pissed off at her when she announced that she would be going back to Five and took her off screen for the remainder of her contract . Kirsty was fantastic presenting live coverage on sept 11 th on ITV news .Far superior than Mary Knightingale was with the death of the QM.

Kirsty will be staying at Five to present their news when SKY takeover she was always a cut above and very confident and good at what she did at STV and most people seem to have a problem with that .

Hear Hear! I agree whole heartedly with your comments regarding Kirsty. I also recall her performance on ITV1 when the 9/11 story broke, she was actually walking through reception when she was summoned to the studio, no make up, no prep, no briefing whatsoever! She handled the channels coverage so amazingly and I will never forget that performance.

And her husband was in New York at the time, as well.

I can't stand Kirsty 'smug' Young even though I agree she is a confident newsreader. To me there is an air of arrogance about her that means I struggle to watch her. Although perhaps others see this as assuredness.
