Blankety Blank: David Walliams to host quiz show Christmas special
David Walliams is to front a revival of quiz show Blankety Blank in a one-off Christmas special of the TV quiz show - the first full episode since 2002.
Presumably the 'Christmas special' is essentially a way of ITV testing the water with a view to run a full series if it's successful, whilst giving them a way out if needed. I think it's good that ITV have opted for someone other than their usual core of presenters (e.g. Schofield, Mulhern).
Well I won't be watching it then. How long into proceedings will he put on the faux-gay voice and mannerisms and his usual shtick he's been peddling since the Rock Profile days?
I think the word you're looking for is "camp".
Personally, I reckon he is ideally suited to the format. I hope it's a success.
I can think of plenty of presenters who could have been chosen who would have been far worse (a lot of them have been suggested in this thread!). Good choice in my opinion. He was great on 24 Hour Panel People.
Yes, his "camp" act is very grating and he's been trotting it out for years on various shows. Can he not just be himself and stop relying on stereotypes and innuendo/sex based humor to get a laugh? If he appears as himself and not as an act it might be tolerable, but if he's just going to be campy all the time then I'll not bother.
I would have much preferred a post-watershed version with Keith Lemon hosting at this point.

Ever thought it might not be an act.
An excellent choice IMO, though it could go either way.
Other names who could have presented it that come to mind include Les Dennis or Greg Scott.
Still, could have been worse, they could have asked Harry Hill or Alan Carr.
One person I still sorely miss from our TV screens is Michael Barrymore. TV gameshows still miss that spark he could bring to them and no one else has come close to emulating his unique style (however much Harry Hill tries!).
