I have just heard BBC London (94.9) that ITV Digital may be put into administration this afternoon by their backers Granada and Carlton.
Does this mean that digital tv does not have a future through an aerial?

Not at all - just means that, for the time being at least, subscription TV is a dead option through your aerial. I can see a replacement service being started by someone else at some point in the future, but perhaps only when analogue is switched off and people who can't get cable or Sky want more choice a tellestrial subscription service will be successful (I personally don't believe there will EVER be space, or need, on the platform for pay-per-view services).
Basically - you will get the current FTA channels - so in addition to the normal five channels, you will still continue to get ITV2, BBC CHOICE/3 and BBC4, News 24, ITN News Channel and perhaps a few others like Sky News and, hopefully, others which are currently sub. only like MTV and Brit. Eurosport.
I don't think NTL will go into administration. They have plenty of subscribers and there are still loads of people with analogue cable that will enevitably upgrade to NTL Digital. Why don't NTL speed up the process by setting an analogue cable witch off date!
Well it's happened...people's fears are now confirmed, now that ITV Digital has been put into administration. All because they can't reach some silly little agreement it's come to this. It's sad to see it happen.
I probably shouldn't say this because it isn't something you should go round shouting out to everyone about, so I'll keep it short and sweet; my dad's company is now short of £20k - they were doing some work for ITV Digital.
CrystalAvenger, don't mean to pick holes, but it's TERRESTRIAL not TELLESTRIAL.

The good thing is that if Carlton and Granada put all their money into itv digital alone then they may be going bankrupt! Imagine that... No Carlton.... ahhhh **** Now back to reality **** If they fold, London get a new region - Yes!!!! :
I wonder what's going to happen to the expected launch of 'cheap' DTT boxes to receive the FTA channels?
I know that it is not totally dependant on ITV Digital... but would it be a good idea to launch the service when you do not know who is going to be supplying the signals to the transmitters and updating the EPG?

I also don't mean to pick holes, but if Carlton and Granada go bust London will get a new ITV company, not a new region.
Also, if that happened, to put it bluntly, ITV would be f***ed.
