MediaGuardian.co.uk is reporting that five has decided to ditch ITN as its news provider, and appoint Sky instead. Quite a blow for ITN, I would have thought, and there'll be celebrations at Sky HQ.

Yes, quite disappointing for ITN, but not totally unexpected - looks like Murdoch is acheiving his aim of getting Sky into terrestrial!

But given that ITN effectively pay the wages of the journalists and broadcasters at Five News, what will happen to them?

It was only a matter of time. Five have various direct and indirect links with BSkyB, and ITN are soon alledgedly planning to become a direct part of ITV. I wouldnt be surprised if Channel 4 aren't planning some changes to their news.

Channel 4 recently signed a new-five year contract with ITN, and Jon Snow has said he would only work for them.

I suppose this is the main reason why Sky are moving their news operation to a new building.

I doubt it.

More to do with the fact that the building they are in a moment is about 15 years old and hasn't enough space in it, really.

I doubt a Channel 5 contract would spark of a new building project, more likely that they were allocated the budget for it, and SKYsports didnt get the money this time round.

So does this mean another Rolling Eyes relaunch for five news?

Funny old world, isn't it, with one area contracting as another expands?

I wonder if Sky News would be interested in buying any buildings in Nottingham, Southampton, Bristol or Cardiff?

Yes, I just write all the channel names like that, unless I am talking about the previous looks for the channels.

"News anchor Kirsty Young will continue to present Five's flagship bulletins at 17.30 and 19.00 but from a purpose built, state-of-the-art studio in West London which will be unveiled for the first Five News report in the New Year."

So, err.
