we don't talk about these little clips all that much here on tvf, but some of them, like the disney 2009 animation really is a masterpiece that sort of epitomise the heritage of disney past and present.

anyway, here are my favourite 3, what are yours?

1) Universal, circa 1991

2) Disney, circa 2009

3) Tristar, circa 1984

I actually think the current universal ident actually looks more dated than the one from 20 years ago which still looks good.

I disagree about the Universal ident, the current is better than that one.
Disney's is nice. Paramount is OK, but the music improves it.
20th Century Fox is the ident I despise, both video and especially the music.

I liked the Warner Brothers symbol. The silence meant something good was about to start.

With Burt Reynolds, probably.

Let's see... out of the current lot, probably the Disney example (a modern evolution true to its history) and this one, first seen towards the end of last year:

Sony Pictures Classics, meanwhile, continues to intrigue; can't find a decent video example but then that's probably because it's merely a blue screen with "SONY PICTURES CLASSICS" in condensed white text and a line over the top.

There's a sinister subtext, I'm sure...

The Tristar ident is the one that instantly springs to mind. When i was a kid I used to stick in VHS tapes of movies just to watch that ident sometimes.

The current Universal one is odd. It does look quite dated, but bizarrely they've just updated it slightly. It's still exactly the same, i think the earth is just a bit more detailed. I like the music though.

I don't mind the 20th Century Fox one, but the current Bluray ident i really don't think works:

If we can expand the topic somewhat, I think my favourite company ident of all time is this one:

Second favourite probably:

Is that the one that was actually filmed physically rather than being fully CGI?

I've always admired the powerful simplicity of this one:

Comparing the two side by side I would say the updated one is quite different. Personally I think it looks great; more evolution than revolution but that has always been the case. Also, we have not seen the animation for it yet which could differ.

Correct.
