A reminder (despite having my calendar entries removed Rolling Eyes Confused ) Melodifestivalen starts at 7pm UK time, via SVT Play online or on Apple TV.

Or if you run Kodi you can install the SVT Play add-on (it's not a piracy add-on - it uses the official streams)

Note - you don't chose to watch SVT1 (which is geoblocked) you chose a live stream instead. http://www.svtplay.se/melodifestivalen may be useful, but don't select "syntolkat" (that's audio description for the visually impaired)

According to Digiguide, the 2015 contest is due to be repeated on BBC Four on Friday 26 February. I think this is an error as that's the date of the UK's national selection, so I assume it's actually the selection programme.

According to the BBC Press Office website the show will start at 19:30 and finish at 21:00

Melfest only had six rather than seven contestants tonight, following a disqualification, this from fan site OIKO Times explains why.....

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – Today a shock came in the Swedish preselection Melodifestivalen. One of the participants, Anna Book, who were to participate in the first semi final on Saturday with the song “Himmel för två”, have been disqualified from the competition.

In a press conference tonight, the Swedish broadcaster SVT announced that the song can not participate in the competition. The reason why is that the song was performed in the Moldovan national final in 2014 with Felicia Dunaf and the song title “Taking Care Of A Broken Heart”.

.... clearly someone's research was inadequate.

......... and the Swedish population of 9.5 million managed to generate 4.3 million votes tonight.
45 votes per 100 of population.

Though the Melodifestivalen app makes it very easy... You can vote up to five times for any or every artist with it.
bilky asko and Whataday gave kudos

So, potentially as few as 860,000 people voting - excluding anyone with more than one device, of course.

That's assuming all votes were via the app. There were also phone votes still - though I don't know if they are capped per originating number.

We have a stage

Very nice. Keeping the ubiquitous LED video walls to the backdrop, rather than throwing them left, right, front, behind above and below that we've seen in previous years.

Plus, if they can pull off that CGI demo for real on the night with a spidercam, I'll be very impressed!

Best stage since Moscow IMO and a massive improvement over the dull production in Vienna.

Looks fab

The two floor light trays are going to be immense especially if they power up as quickly as in the CGI version released today.

This is SVT we're talking about. I'm sure they will manage to pull this out of the bag in a spectacular fashion...
