Interesting interview article discussing the reduction to 23 PL fixtures from next season ....
ESPN Keeps U.K. Prices Unchanged as Soccer Schedule Shrinks
March 8 (Bloomberg) -- Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN won’t reduce subscription prices for its U.K. television channel when the station loses half its Premier League soccer content next season, a senior company official said.
ESPN started broadcasting live sports in the U.K. after taking over a 46-game Premier League soccer contract following the collapse of Setanta Sports in June. Its offering will drop to 23 matches after British Sky Broadcasting Group Plc won the rights to all but one of the six packages for live rights for three seasons through May 2013.
“I don’t anticipate we’ll change price point,” John Skipper, ESPN’s executive vice president for content, said in an interview. “It’s clearly the signature product. Having 46 games this year was a real luxury. We’ll have to supplement the 23 important games next year. There’s no question the English Premier League remains the premier product for us.”

No surprise - I wasn't expecting it and the deals they've signed go someway to compensating for the loss of the Premier League - ESPN were very shrewd for example in not signing up to cover the FA Cup this year, meaning taking it on next year looks like a replacement for Premier League matches.

X Games at 5pm, the award for extending the elements of a programme to fill with minimal content goes to ESPN.
Three runs, Eight Competitors, Run Length 40seconds = 16 minutes action s.t.r.e.t.c.h.e.d to a 90 minute programme (including ad breaks but that's a technicality!)
Good though.

No worse than American Football - 60 minutes of sporting action squeezed into a 4 hour programme.
