I don't think they ever said it was JUST throughout August, just that "future schedules have not been confirmed"- presumably hedging their bets after what happened with The Bill last year, in case they do decide to drop it, rather than mislead viewers that it will be continuing indefiantely.

I notice you've added this tweet since I replied to your post above.

UKTV have confirmed on Twitter it's just throughout August Sad

Does that tweet relate to the broadcasts or just availability on UKTV Play though? Possible they just didn't sort out on demand rights beyond August. All their tweets have been so ambiguous about this.

Tha's a bit **** if they're only lasting a month, though I shouldn't be suprised after how they treated The Bill last year.

I’ve heard they will be making an announcement on Wednesday regarding EastEnders. Not sure what this will be, unless it’s to confirm scheduling. I don’t understand how they can make a decision about whether or not the programme will continue after August before seeing how the episodes rate - and there seems little sense in deciding in advance to only screen the first 40 or so episodes of a continuing drama. That would just anger and disappoint viewers that were enjoying them.

Like they did when they decided to skip The Bill ahead by 10 years at less than a week's notice. After already sending out at least 2 weeks worth of schedules showing the 1989 episodes that even ended up in some printed TV guides.

Exactly. It can be argued that this time they aren’t making false promises, but there will be complaints nonetheless.

The Sun are usually accurate regarding the soaps these days.

Probably the only thing they are accurate about. Well apart from the size of Karen, 18, from Sunderland's tits on Page 3.

Blimey when did you last read The Sun? No tits on page 3 for years now!

Yeah, they still have models posing on that page - but they're always wearing at least a bikini. No naked boobies any more!

Just a reminder, for those who are interested, that EastEnders repeats begin this coming Monday, 6th August, on the Drama Channel. Two episodes a day, at 12 noon and 12.40pm, starting with episode one in chronological order.

The fact they are being given a 40-minute slot is reassuring. There may be occasional cuts for content, outdated language etc, but not for timing reasons.

It’s unclear how long the repeat broadcasts will last - I suppose this depends on ratings, viewer reaction and costs.
