Well i think that Maggie Mash should hit those cobbled streets with her handbag and high heels ,and be there for Todd , she could be his fag hag .
She is gonna take the street by storm when they hear that posh voice of hers .
A bitter lemon for now shelly but next a sherry and later a packet of crips.

I'm so glad to hear someone say that! There has been rumours about this in the likes of Gay Times etc (including screengrab proof) for a couple of months. From the moment I first read about it, I though "how unconvincing" too. Shameless desperate-to-boost-ratings behaviour or what?
PS You're all a bunch of puffs! And I'm a hypocrite.

It just seems to be quite unconvincing that between now and 5th October he suddenly decides he is gay!

Well I am glad that Corrie are having a Gay Storyline, but I would much prefer for a New Gay Guy to come into the show. Instead of Kids deciding am I, am I not etc, Have a Guy who IS gay and that’s that!
I just wonder haw many sad people are planning now well in advanced what to say when they phone up and complain that night? "My kids had to watch this" " It makes me sick" It a shame people are just so Homophobic. Just because 2 Guys kiss, it’s not going to kill their child watching TV. Parents should take this opportunity to explain about Homosexuality, Instead of Complaining about it and making a big fuss on the night.
It bet, ITV and the Television Watchdog have more staff on the phones on that Monday night, as they know have many people with too much time on their hands are going to complain. I just hope people don’t take it too seriously and we hear weeks later that Bruno gets beaten up in Manchester or something just because he's Kiss another Man on TV. You just know some sad people are going to think its real life and think that Bruno is now gay, even though he’s not.

I totally agree with that! I would much prefer a gay couple being introduced to the show rather than have someone turn gay who up until now has only been interested in people of the opposite sex.
And yes people can be soooo homophobic - I know for a fact one person in my family is – and the only person to have given me 100% support over my sexuality is my brother who doesn’t have a problem with it at all.
I am looking forward to this storyline but would hope that Todd remains gay and doesn’t suddenly go back to Sarah after a few weeks. That would be so pointless and boring – once Nick leaves they should introduce another gay character who could be Todd’s boyfriend and then give them normal storyline, just they happen to be in a gay relationship. Sarah would of course move back with her mother.

Hmmmm... It's funny seeing you talking about 'the first gay kiss' in a soapseries. Well, we haven't had one recently in the Netherlands, but I think if someone (I can't imagine WHO!) would announce that two boys in GTST (a Dutch soapseries) are going to kiss each other or maybe have sex on TV, very few people would talk about that in a serious way. As I said: "I can't imagine who", because for the viewers nor for the actors it won't be a very big deal.
As you may probably know, we here in the Netherlands are more 'advanced' when it comes to homosexuality. Though, for the broadcaster (RTL 4) of GTST the decision to 'inject' some gay-affaires, is hard, I think. Not because of the few viewers who will turn their TV on another channel when seeing two boys kissing or whatever lovely things doing together, but just for the reason of the advertisers. The advertisers don't want to be associated with homosexuality because it may damage their image. At least, that's what I think: there hasn't been a gay kiss or whatsoever for a long time in GTST.
How is that in Great Britain? Do TV-channels dance to their advertisers? Do the commercials giants listen to their sponsors to receive more pounds? The multinationals who are vulnarable for bad publicity? Or haven't they any influence in the programs of British commercial broadcasters at all?
(By the way, GTST ('Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden', in English something like: 'Good Times, Bad Times') is the country's longest broadcasted soapseries: it's on our screen for elevenor maybe twelve years (yes, nothing compared to Coronation Street). And today was the opener for the new season. Terrible, again ten months of crazy storylines, bad playing actors and a commercial break after 5 minutes!
But, as I said, my theory of the power of the advertisers is just a thought... And regarding that gay-kiss in Coronation Street... Enjoy it!

it's not the first gay kiss on a British soap opera, just the first on Coronation Street. All the other UK soaps I can think of have featured gay kisses and have had gay couples.
And I don't think that the advertisers control what we see on British television. It's more the viewers who ITV are scared of upsetting.
The only time I can remember an advertiser interveining is when Heineken bosses in Holland requested that fewer black people appeared on Planet 24's "Hotel Babylon". However that was a direct sponsor of the programme rather than a general advertiser on the channel.

Totally irrelevant but why does Coronation Street have:
A pub
Two corner shops
A Salon
A factory
A garage
A medical centre
A chippy
A café
A taxi service
Les Battersby
all in one street that's barely 100m long? Then there's about 5 houses. How unconvincing! Now all they need is a gay couple to put the icing on the cake.

Well some of those shops are on Rosamund St or Victoria Street - but I guess it was more realistic in the 70s/80s when they just had the corner shop, Rovers and the Kabin on Rosamund St (anyone remember the old Kabin?)

It's not that unconvincing at all. Where I live there are three corner shops, a 'Spar', a newsagents, a petrol station, a chippy, two chinese takeaways, a electronics shop (sells mainly sky stuff), two salons, a post office, a pub and a vetinary practice all on two streets connected to each other like Coronation Street and Rosamund street.
Hmm... I've heard many foreign soaps being called "Good Times, Bad Times" - there's the dutch 'Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden', Germany have 'Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten' and I think there's another too (in Norway?)

Well - Vaniliuz - You must remember that the UK is well behind The Netherlands with regards to homosexuality..
Also - if you look at this gaysite.nl story you will see the level of prejudice that still exists in the UK. (For those who do not understand Dutch it's about over 300 complaints received over The Bill's gay kiss).
