Im surprised that pub is still open, it should have closed years ago.

Corrie must have a small extra's budget really - not that often are extras seen on the street and the Rovers is smaller than the other soaps pubs.
If the Bistro was closed it's unlikely the scenes would be moved all to the Rovers unless a background character was made Bar Staff otherwise it be hard to get all the staff in many scenes without them being overused.

I'd support closing the Bistro and concentrating on the Rovers.

One thing about the Rovers in the classic ITV3 episodes is that it genuinely has the feel of a real pub with so many extras coming and going, sometimes getting in the way or almost bumping into people, like in the real world. It's a believable pub. I'm afraid the Rovers nowadays has nothing like that atmosphere and they should try to get that dynamic back. Some current episodes make the Rovers seem a quite sterile environment. The importance of these non speaking Rovers extras seems to have been lessened in the time between then and now.

Arguably though that is keeping up with the times. Pubs are generally quieter places now (if not closed), so not packing it out with extras makes sense.

Doesn't the threat of the Rovers turning into a trendy gastro pub resurface every 5 years or so? I remember it happening in 2000. Back then it was "The Boozy Newt"

The Bistro has managed to change its interior (and name) quite a few times during its 10 year existence, I don't believe there was any 'viewer uproar'. Perhaps the reaction to the 'Roverz' won't be as they expect from the viewers.

Pubs are closing all the time, yet this street effectively has two outlets which seem to survive.

The Rovers is a tad more iconic than the Bistro, especially to the tabloids who still think it’s about 1990 when they do TV stories (always talking about BBC One vs ITV ratings wars and the like)

Inreality it would be closed now, but soaps aren’t reality, all the main three have major flaws, notably that in real life the characters couldn’t afford to live in EastEnders and Emmerdale, whereas itd be the opposite on Corrie and they’d all live on Grasmere Drive.

I would say that the new look Roverz as a gastro pub is a wind up to get the punters in the pub on opening night.

Especially since these renovations seem to have taken all of a day and a half.

It's quite worrying that they felt the need to clarify in the

. . . they want to change the name to Roverz (with a z)

I'm not saying this is why they did it, but for someone with sight problems who uses a screenreader, that would clarify it a lot.

When I read on here the name "Roverz" I thought it was a sarcastic wind up, not remotely giving it any credibility as genuine.

Are you not familiar with the tabloids?

They never let a sarcastic throw away line get in the way of a deadly serious news story.

Bradley Walsh having rows with the chasers and storming off every night springs to mind.

Your obvious dislike for Corrie at the moment is seriously clouding your judgement.

I noticed a new shot over the opening credits on today's ITV 3 editions. It includes a new shot of the Rovers Return as the title card appears.
