Well the Rovers is about to get it's latest revamp - think according to the blurb they decide tonight to relaunch it and it's all ready for the relaunch by the end of the week - because that's how things work in soap land. Aren't they renaming it The Roverz?

Does anyone know of a definitive reason why ITV3 classic CS is not being placed on the ITV Hub?

I think for a whole host of reasons we won't see these classic episodes or the whole archive open to the public on demand.

1) A streaming service would be costly to maintain. Corrie can't just be the only programme open to viewers, it would have to be all the soaps and continuing dramas. Moreover, what would their pricing strategy be like?
2) Corrie is a continuing drama, ITV's focus will be on the present state of the show, rather than the last 50 years.
3) The early episodes suffer from wear and tear, It might need a lot of work to make it broadcastable.
4) Then there is the issue of clearance fees, music royalties and residuals. I think this was the "technical issue" ITV refer to. It would certainly apply in the 1990s as the contracts then were more watertight.
5) Do we know for sure who actually owns the rights, especially since the whole Granada/Carlton merger?

The early episodes don't fall into the public domain until 2030 at the earliest because of an extension. Who knows, if the BBC/ITV get their act together and take on Netflix, it might finally be available to watch.

The issue's most likely contractural, that's often an issue with old TV shows made before the Video/DVD and internet age. Contracts need renogotiaiting, things need sorting, and I guess they don't consider it worth it. Especially as there's 10 episodes a week for them to sort out.

Even then a lot of older stuff that does come out often gets edited because of contract problems. Look how often scenes get chopped out on DVDs!

I think that is probably the rather predictable point. The revamp will fail, Jonny will sell to Steve & Liz and use the money to buy out Peter from the factory.

I think the bosses want Jenny and Johnny in there for the long haul - especially after how poor Toyah and Peter have been.

As for this "revamp"- there were behind the scenes pictures of the Rovers interior on Twitter just a few days ago and the bar area looked the same, so I'd guess the only revamp might be a new wallpaper - which is long overdue.
However, Sally Ann was on GMB this morning live from the Street and it was interesting that they didn't show the exterior of the pub - Richard Arnold said that the new look would be revealed on Friday - so we might be seeing some new paint work, which would be nice!

Remember when the pub went over 20 years without a proper refurbishment (apart from the stained glass above the seats circa 1994)? Should have been hellishly grotty inside by the end.

Then when it finally got refurbed, the wallpaper changed overnight a few months later with no on screen explanation. Must have been done by the same person who moved the staircase at Number 4.

It's not a real business, you know! Laughing

There was a glimpse of a back room down the right hand side (as you walk in) of the bar at the Rovers tonight, complete with out of tune piano - I always assumed there was just a door leading straight out the back. Has that room ever appeared before?

It's been there since they turned the back yard in the smoking shelter. I walked through it when I did the tour of the old set in 2015.

Even though Sally is one of my favourite characters im not very enthusiastic about her current storyline. The scenes with Gina, Dev, Sally, Tim about the phone seemed ridiculous to me. Jenny is another character I like lots but I don't care about her plans for the Rovers. Its all very boring. I also don't care about Rana, Kate and Imran and the fact that Rana is lying to her mother about Kate. I hope something interesting happens soon in Corrie!

Or whoever the series producer may be. It seems the writers had no idea on how to convince Georgina Taylor to return, so they lazily paired her up with Peter and have them both buy out the Rovers.

If you think back to 1987 when Alec bought a share of the Rovers and married Bet, it could have been a total disaster. But the great thing was both actors worked on building a chemistry, and the writers clearly invested in them (wrote wonderful lines). And it is no coincidence once they got the Rovers lineup right, everything fell into place. Corrie was booming as the decade was up.

I think it's quite a smart move to put Jenny as landlady. She bridges the gap between the old and new generations, the actress can do the comedy and serious stuff in equal measure. But I'm no fan of Johnny.

What I don't want is the McDonalds buying the pub again. It just wouldn't make sense, financially and logically. The whole reason Michelle Collins was drafted in was because they were getting on a bit, but then when Stuart Blackburn took up the hot seat he decided to turn the clocks back, like he didn't even bother to watch his predecessor's work. The Rovers badly needs some continuity.
