Just watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - there have been 3 ad breaks throughout the hour show. Thing is they come round so quickly you forget the show you're watching sometimes!
Take satellite channels for example. MTV's spinoff channel for Freeview - TMF has an ad break between almost every song, and the amount of ad breaks throughout five's Back To Reality..!
You have to remember that the only way that the channels can actually broadcast is due to the revenue from the advertising.
Personally I think everyone would prefer it if there was no ads shown on TV but I think the commerical model is one which is much better than any other (i.e. licence / subscription etc). It gives a large amount of programming of different types and doesn't have a direct impact on one's personal spending.
I personally wouldn't mind an increase in ads if I knew that it would generate extra cash for good programming.
Just come across ITV's Saturday Night line-up for next week:::
6:30PM Learner Drivers (dropped from its Friday night slot) (1 ad break)
6:57PM ads
7:00PM Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway (FAB SHOW!!) (3 ad breaks = approx 9mins)
7:58PM ads
8.01PM Dennis "Awwwwww-boring" Norden's 353rd Laughter (sorry 'not-funny' File (3 ad break = 9 mins)
8:39PM ads
9:03PM A Touch Of Frost Season (the 7th season full of repeats)
OOps made an error...Touch of Frost is uaually Fridays isnt it.
Perhaps you are right. I think the day's of TVS were much better. It was far more friendlier and simplistic. I miss TVS. I can even remember the days of Southern TV. God I'm feeling really old!

Moved temporarily to the Salisbury area two years ago, switched on to the ITV local news and - "wow" don't beleive it they've still got Fred!! Very welcome he is too a fine broadcaster, pity that ITV don't use him on network programmes as well.
Absolutely. What is the point of good programming if there are too many ads to prevent us from enjoying the programmes?
That's what UKTV are changing - they're decreasing the break durations on their channels because research has shown that the viewers find the constant breaks annoying.
The idea of course is to rduce the number of adverts, but charge more or each one

We had Mike Debens and (not as) Liz Wickham in our region. Presenting Coast to Coast from the Dover studios. Those were the days - it actually was a 'studio' then as well - not just a graphical background and desk like todays format. I don't remember Southern TV - only via websites etc.
