Never thought Morrisons would out do M&S at a Christmas advert, but they have this year!

What's so special about that? It's awful. Freddie's as dull as dishwater. The John Lewis one of the other hand deserves and Oscar for short film. Fantastic.

To be fair I said that before the John Lewis advert was released and I said it because I can't stand The X Factor, so for obvious reasons I prefer the Morrisons advert.

The X Factor thing seems a bit of a desperate move for M&S, almost as if they ran out of ideas and did something fairly pedestrian with added cheap publicity. Morrison's is basically a remake of their Easter/Royal Wedding ad, but that was pretty good too. It's not subtle or particularly clever but people like cute kids and Freddie Flintoff so it works.

John Lewis's is one of the best ads I've seen, it's probably near perfect. I watched it once then immediately wanted to watch it again to see what I'd missed. It's odd to think that TV advertising is a new thing to John Lewis, they've had some cracking adverts over the past few years

£5m quid for that - and a rather gushing over reaction. Yes, it's a nice ad - with a nice (but predictable) twist, but it's hardly reinventing the wheel is it.

All true but still I have to leave you with the mandated rejoiners of "You're a Scrooge" and "It's Christmas, do not be pessimistic" or equivalent as per the TVF Christmas Thread's Big Unwritten Rule Book of Don't Crap on My Optimism cf. 2002 onwards.

Procedure, you know how it can be.

There's a chap over on Digital Spy who said that he starred in this year's BBC One Ident, which included 'carol singers, snowmen, snowballs and sleighs'. It's backed up from his CV page, so it seems genuine enough. Sounds very good - look forward to seeing it on screen (although hopefully it will be 17th December rather than 10th!!).

Looks like most of C4's Christmas specials will play out earlier in December - Million Pound Drop Christmas shows begin 5th December, with several Christmas specials the following week.

Is Million Pound Drop going to be live? I heard it was recorded for some reason.

I think the week of Christmas shows are live. It's the "mash up" edition to air in January which is being recorded, presumably that week.

Mash? Up?

I believe for Channel 4's anniversary, they're swapping presenters and shows. I think Phil Spencer or someone is presenting an episode of Million Pound Drop in which Davina competes.

Oh yes. I read about that earlier in this thread. I wasn't aware we were referring to it as a mash up.
