Since other previous Charlie Brooker related threads have been archived, so no new posts can be added anymore, just a quick reminder that Charlie Brooker's Anti-Viral Wipe is on tonight at 9pm on BBC Two.

Quote:

In this one-off special, Charlie Brooker returns to our screens for the first time since his Bafta-winning 2016 Wipe to take a look at life under lockdown.

As well as coverage of the crisis itself, Charlie also explores what the public have been watching to while away the hours.

Guest contributors joining him, from a safe distance, include the ever-insightful Philomena Cunk and Barry S**tpeas. If nothing else, it will give you something to do for half an hour.

Brooker was an absolute hero to me from the early Screenwipe days right up to about 2012, but suffered a little from diminishing returns after that - he admitted himself that he can’t be as satirical as he used to now he’s involved more in the TV industry. ‘Weekly Wipe’ was when I started losing interest.

Will be interesting to see how this one is - I watched a bit of 2016 Wipe when it was first shown but it seemed far too relaxed for a year that seemed so apocalyptic for me and others at the time.

Screenwipe was the best of the 'wipes, but I still enjoyed them all, and have really missed the end of the year wipes.

My favourite Wipe apart from Screenwipe was Gameswipe.

Anyone else spot the Television Centre signage behind Charlie?

Top marks to the subtitler for removing the vowels and consonants for the Elton John clip Very Happy

He introduced the programme by saying "Hello I'm former presenter Charlie Brooker"

I wonder if this means this was just a one-off?

He's said in previous years that he's been too busy to do the annual wipes, so will be interesting to see if it returns at the end of this year, as I think he's less likely to be too busy this year.

Best lockdown show by far, though of course the format absolutely suits current conditions anyway.

Sadly doubt we'll get many more - he has said now he is part of the industry he takes the piss out of it isn't something he feels he can do.

This was really good. A very, very welcome treat.

A bit of dubbing at 15m.

Edit: actually a bit later than that. I missed the start.

Nice to Konnie Huq making an appearance too.

He still manages to satirise, albeit more seriously, plenty of sections of media in Black Mirror . News, reality TV, soaps, gameshows... they should all still be fair game to him.

Philomena Cunk's interview with a scientist was divine.
