Yorkshire seem to suffer from a distinct lack of imagination when it comes to designing their idents. Their original B/W one was brilliant, this was replaced with a badly designed slide, which was replaced with another badly designed slide, which was replaced with the nice liquid gold, then they adopted the corporate look. Inoffensive enough, until they made that awful re-edit of it, which they ran for FIVE YEARS. Then they came up with another pretty drab ident, replaced it with the quite nice looking (and souding) Channel 3 ident. But when Channel 3 was scrapped, they just took the animation out leaving the logo spinning around and around and around and doing nothing else, then they adopted the next corporate look, OK until they stopped using anything but the lines version (and now don't even use the music that's supposed to go with it) and the regional idents used now are horrible, possibly the worst they've ever come up with.
But they're still not as bad as Granada for idents

Exactly cwathen, which is why the guys in the Central region are lucky, because they had so many different and imaginative idents to look at!

The best place I know for Central Idents is tv-ark.co.uk . When they put the 1994 set of cakes up I felt really guilty for being pleased when they changed to CENTRAL when I looked back, but they have recently put the 1996 set up which is truly AWFUL. I think they have also missed out a Central News East look, it was used before the blue one, it was green and there was a compass pointing east (I can't remember much more because It wasn't until 1997 that we had our aerial changed to Waltham, I'd only ever seen it at my Grandmas). Anyone know of any other sites for Central idents (there are a few I just can't remember), despite my hate of the 'Inflate' one i'd like to see it again.
tv-ark is one of the best i know too. i think the 1996 logos were ok. i've viewed the central news west intros and i think they had some of the best music for a regional programme in the whole country.

Well i'm all for the return of the cake (it would be very difficult to use now). You must be the only person who wants to see Central style hearts, they are hideous (I mean the EMP Hearts concept), but luckily i'd say it was pretty much certain we'll never see them.

i don't want the hearts in it. i thought that link design was quite good though. i want the cake logo as it was seen on telly around 1990-ish.
