It's worse than that, seems almost all the studios have gone, TC8's outer walls but no roof...

Still... some bits were saved, and taken on a bit of a tour:

Is that not TC6, with TC7 next to it, also roofless but still with roof trusses? I thought TC8 was in Stage V, so is in that bigger block to be demolished next...

Yea, 8 is still there at the moment.

Until I saw the photos I don't think I'd really appreciated how much was being totally demolished. Though having now seen photos of the buildings replacing the studios it is the only thing they can do.

As well as the studios the 'central wedge' has also gone - that's the parts of the building that housed all the various incarnations of presentation and the Central Communications Area.

I don't think many people appreciated how much would be destroyed. All the talk of the donut remaining was a bit of a misdirection by the developers and the BBC to keep the complaints down. If you read those press releases now they are quite laughable. I don't see how you can call it Television Centre, its 'an apartment, club, hotel & social housing Centre' with 2.5 studios stuck on the south side. Even the front of the donut doesn't escape demolition completely *

On a positive note these old/new studios are well on the way to being completed with the cladding around the new HVAC for the studios in situ*

My understanding is that The studio building work will be finished by November this year and fit out to follow at the beginning of 2016.

TC8 was in Stage IV (aka Spur) - which was completed in building terms in '66, and TC8 opened in '68.

Stage V arrived much later - around 1988ish?

Ah yes, often used to get Stages IV and V mixed up for some reason... Where was the boundary between Stage III and IV? TC7's wall?

I always thought it was as you turned right out of North Hall - there was a flooring change I think.

Quick question...

Apart from the 'big screen' on the balcony, how many weather studios are there in 'New' BH? Is it just the one?

Thanks,
Darryl

I believe there are two CSO studios dedicated to the weather bulletins and then, as you said, there's also the balcony screen.

The doughnut pretty much survives, and I think there would be further outcry if it were not to be called Television Centre as a nod to the heritage of the site.
