Which proves why MTV keep producing the show.

Yes, I'm not defending these shows or saying they're any good, but it's silly going on some sort of moral crusade as if people are being corrupted by simply watching shows like this.

How about just the fact that it's making people believe such behaviour is acceptable, when it plainly isn't. There are people out there who believe because TV shows something in a documentary or reality show, that because it is shown, it is acceptable to do it. Some people consider getting blind drunk every week a right, a rebellion after a week in work, where as sane people consider it what it is, something that demeans you, something that makes you look incredibly bad, and something that shows you cannot control yourself. Yet youngsters these days almost consider it a right of passage, because it is almost glorified by shows like Geordie Shore.

Entertaining the masses by humiliating them, that's a great way to get people to watch your channel... [/sarcastic]

You may be surprised that the demographic might actually just enjoy Geordie Shore without them getting tanked up or sleeping around. It's entertainment. It's not to my taste, yet 1.15m watch this show which is commercially viable.

Entertainment, but for who? Would Margaret Thatcher watch it? Would your 90+ year old grandmother watch it? I doubt it. It's entertainment. For stupid people.

Well sure but only because it's not aimed at them in the slightest.

While I generally don't watch reality TV, there is an audience (mainly the younger demographic) that watch these shows. I can understand their appeal, but my personal opinion says otherwise.

This thread needs to go back on topic though...

I'd just like to point out that Margaret Thatcher would have great trouble watching anything, seeing as she's dead.

And her eyesight wasn't the best when she was alive either. Very blinkered.

It's not exactly on BBC One primetime is it? It's an MTV show, they're free to make whatever kind of programming they want, it's not like if they weren't making it then suddenly teenagers would be really interested in the news and "what's really going on". That's a very condescending point of view to have and rather belittles those who choose to watch shows like this.

The 1.115million that recently watched an edition of Geordie Shore should be ashamed of themselves. If they want to watch that kind of thing, just go out to a club every Friday or Saturday night, you'll see that kind of stuff. it isn't needed on our TV sets too.

Or TOWIE for that matter.

It was market leading on ITV2 and always tops the ratings on ITVBe. Whatever you think of these downmarket shows, they are successful for a tiny budget format.

I think we've focused a little bit too much on the worst channels out there. What about the best ones by far?

If you are a child or have one, I believe there are some decent and brilliant kids channels out there on Sky or other platforms, but if you don't have that, you'll have to deal with most of the POP channels and BBC and ITV. Anyway, the first one I'd recommend is Cartoon Network. Its library has been good over the last few years with awesome programming like Adventure Time, Regular Show, etc. But don't get me wrong, all channels have their falls and downs, which CN has had to deal with.

Disney Channel and Nickelodeon is the worst for sitcoms, they have the same jokes, the same dull laugh track, and if all end kills the coffin, a lot of the dullest actors I have ever seen. I do NOT recommend showing Disney Channel or Nickelodeon to your child. But Nick's and Disney's cartoons are hit or miss. You'll have good ones like Mickey Mouse, Harvey Beaks and The Loud House, but, bad toons like Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners are the ones that only a baby would laugh at. Euugh, what happened, Nick and Disney?

Recently, Disney have had some of the best cartoons around. Like the (now ended) Gravity Falls, Wander Over Yonder, Mickey Mouse, Phineas and Ferb, Star vs. the Forces of Evil and Star Wars Rebels.

I agree with you about Nick. TMNT, The Loud House and Harvey Beaks are great. I also felt that SpongeBob got much better after a lot of the original came back, which was quite recently. Breadwinners (which has now been cancelled) was awful. Sanjay and Craig (which has also been cancelled) was bad to start with, but it became much better in season 3.

I don't watch any of the Nick or Disney live-action shows.
