Just thinking as well the best tests were back in 1991 when they were testing for BBC Select. It's the only test I know that mixes Testcard F, some black/white/greys, some coloured spheres and coverage of golf with everything having the tone in the background.
I wondered what was going on at first considering it was 3 in the morning. Only found out with thanks to a clip on MHP Private Parts that it was due to a test for BBC Select.
Weird, it's just gone to tcj (quite early), with a lower tone. There was some fuzzing on the left audio channel, which indicates somebody fiddling with a worn fader, or a dirty connection. In North Bristol, and I can see some ghosting traces of the corner stripes. Not a bad picture really, but I'm not sure the gratings look right still. Though, I'm not sure what they looked like the last time I saw tcj live a couple of months back. Hmm, I think I must've been without NICAM for a bit too, as the audio just got clearer.
Yes it was a rather interesting cut to TCJ, it just cut to a blank screen and then TCJ popped up with this strange new tone which sounds to me like a mix between the old BBC1 high-pitched tone and the old BBC2 400MHz tone..
And you lot can give us back our London Ceefax! That's ours!!
Jyst thinking... is there a Guiness world record for the longest O's and X's game in history... this one seems to have taken them a few years!
Of course, what with being in London now, I probably won't notice as much action as those of you outside London thanks to the tests originating from CP! Ah well... there's always next year when I should hopefully have moved to Devon! Should notice it a bit more then...

I think I read somewhere that one Christmas Day, the engineers got bored and actually finished the game off. Bubbles the doll won. Whether it's fact or fiction, you decide but it came part of a Carol Hersee article in the Mirror a few years ago.
