When we signed up for sky at Currys we got a free insatllation (now only half price installation) as we bought a new TV at the same time. In the agreement for the sky box you have to subscribe to sky for 12 months, the first month being for the top package and keep the phone line connected for 12 months. This is the case if you want the cheapest installation as sky charge you a subsidary if you only use the box FTA or for a lower level package. (If you only want the family pack it's cheaper to subscribe for Sky world for 1 month and then drop down!). The phone line is supposidly for downloading viewing figures.

Surely those english regions which are going to be in the first wave of digisat availability will go proper 16:9 between now and launch date????? (As opposed to all that 4:3 zoomed and cropped to 14:9 b*ll*cks that most of them are doing at the moment)
Of the regions initially available, am I correct in thinking that - at the time of me writing this post - LDN is the only one doing 16:9 properly.
I hope MidsTdy get sorted before digisat launch (so rest of england don't see the mess that it is at present). I wonder if MidsTdy will finally move to the Mailbox between now and then (doubtful)? I've not watched MidsTdy for ages, so wouldn't have heard any on-screen announcement about moving.

You are correct. BBC London from Marylebone High St is the only full 16:9 region featuring in the initial DSat wave of regions. The only other full 16:9 English region is currently Tunbridge Wells, and that is not on satellite until the second wave.
The other English regional centres are almost all still 4:3 analogue (Nottingham is the exception - it is 4:3 digital) in terms of studio kit, editing etc. They are all thus 14:9 pillarbox on digital. Where centres are relocating (Birmingham, Norwich, Leeds, Hull) then they will move to 16:9 as part of their moves. (Not sure if Norwich moving will mean Cambridge also upgrading)
Regions which are not moving are likely to be upgraded over the next 12-24 months I believe, and any new kit purchased over the last few years, like graphics and newcameras and editing equipment has been 16:9 capable. (Leeds and Newcastle recently replaced their studio cameras with widescreen capable models for example) A move to 16:9 is potentially very expensive, as the entire video infrastructure (vision mixer, routing etc) has to be upgraded to digital, any 4:3 only kit (studio and location cameras etc) replaced, and loads of aspect ratio converters (one per edit suite minimum) fitted.
Would be VERY surprised if Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds were 16:9 by the end of next week...
