why would it split off?

I was wondering that too, no idea!

Because they were talking about splitting last time, if the situation has changed fair enough.

That's why I was asking, it's a question.

It would be "fanciful" to expect a separately owned Sky News to be properly independent of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, according to lawyers acting for a group of four normally competing newspaper owners in a submission opposing the media mogul's £8bn buyout of BSkyB.

Writing on behalf of the companies behind the Daily Telegraph, the Daily Mirror, the Daily Mail and the Guardian, Slaughter and May said that a proposal to split off Sky News would not be enough to address fears that Rupert Murdoch would dominate British media once his NewsCorp bought all of the satellite broadcaster.

As he has sold off NewsCorp I guess it no longer applies....

I think you're getting confused. What happened is that News Corporation was split into two, it became 21st Century Fox which deals with TV and Film, and a new company called NewsCorp was created which holds all the newspaper and news assets.

The Murdochs are still key players and major shareholders of both 21st Century Fox and NewsCorp.

Oh right, I understand now.

If it happens, RIP Sky UK 1990-2016 (or 2017 if it happens then).
If it does, I swear I will switch to a different provider, as they will ruin Sky TV, make Sky Q even worse, remove support for Sky+HD and anything pre-Q, make it too complicated, and ruin the logos (normal logo, Sky 1 logo, Sky Living logo, Sky Atlantic logo, Sky 2 logo, Sky Arts logo)

We must do all we can to protect those logos.

There is NO chance of sky getting renamed, far to much money has been spent on the SKY brand.

Testing my history again, but didn't Murdoch pretty much win the "logo fight" when he (Sky) took over BSB. BSB channels and idents were scrapped in favour of Sky's. Since then Sky has been under Murdoch's influence.

You do realise that all those products were developed in offices around 100 ft from the main Sky UK head office in Isleworth?

Why would one existing shareholder taking more shares to the point of takeover, then go and ruin industry leading home technology entertainment products?

If anything having 21st Century Fox will strengthen Sky which may come in handy when the sports rights get even more ridiculous to bid for.

Despite the sports issues, they still have market leading products with SkyQ and NOW TV, the latter bringing in revenue from customers who can't have or afford the main Sky service.

However with VoD services and pirate streams eating into potential revenue streams, Sky will have to up their game even more at both ends of their UK business to keep and bring back viewers.

What going to happen to Fox channel?

Probably going to merge with Sky1, if that's possible. But why would they, considering they just launched Sky1 in Germany.

They will never merge, unless the Sky brand is scrapped. It's well established here, would not be wise to just scrap it, as said above.
