Rob got another chance to sign off during the overnight Weatherview:

Interesting the tv announcer acknowledged it. I have never known them to name check the forecaster before. Didn't even realise BBC One had a live announcer at that time of night.

Very sad that Rob has departed. Shame on you, Met Office.

Most network continuity is live, though some is recorded late night on BBC ONE, though it makes no difference either way. Weatherview is always recorded, so the Weatherview presenter is always known in advance and is usually name checked by the announcer.

Really? Darren was on the weather update just before PMQs at 12:00 - was he covering someone else or have they merged the Breakfast and NC morning presenters?

Doubt it - I would imagine Carol was off sick.

In the original article about the departures of Tomasz Schafernaker Rob McElwee and Phil Avery it was claimed that three more forecasters would also be leaving - does anyone know if this was true or simply incorrect? They certainly seem to have substantially rejigged the on-air shifts.

I don't think it's been reported in the media yet - whether this is because they are three forecasters with lower profiles to McElwee, Avery and Schafernaker or they weren't known at the time I don't know.

The Daily Mirror reported that for one, as "further axings", or words to that effect: From what I gather from my sources, the Met Office want to make more cutbacks with regards to on-screen BBC national presenters in the near future-- I sense the distinct feeling that the BBC isn't happy about this. Perhaps it may hire some of these "axed" presenters itself-- after all many of its regional forecasters are employed directly by the Beeb?

I think Tori Lacey has left. Matt Taylor tweeted the following on the 9th.
