This has popped up in my suggested YouTube vids.

It may be 13 years old, SD, 4:3, but there's something wonderfully exciting and engaging about the set, the presentation and music.

Maybe it's age, but like a lot of other presentation these days it's unfortunately become a little dull.

Exactly what I was saying earlier in the thread. Sky used to do things that were different. There was consistency across the brand. All we have now is the news delivered from what looks to be an out-of-town Marks & Spencer or John Lewis.

I notice despite Sunrise finishing Sky News is still coming from the secondary studio at the moment. Did we ever confirm on here if the new studio was being used for weekends as well as overnights/Sunrise?

Unfortunately we are not in 2004 anymore. The way people get their news has changed. In my opinion, Sky News the channel is heading for closure. This move recently is part of a long “game”. The channel is being stripped away peice by peice. I suspect the channel will be gone within five years. I hope I am wrong. That doesn’t mean Sky News will be gone. And Disney I can’t see keeping it for long either. It would not make sense! It’s a shame but it is what it is.

Totally agreed fanoftv. Loved that look - not overly flashy but pacy and exciting.

Similarly I really like this look for a few years before that - especially the music.

And while not as good as the above, I still think the 2011 look was pretty strong.

I think in 2005 they then lost their way - of course the presentation looked fantastic and would go down well on here but it felt like the focus became too much on the presentation instead of simply giving the news - what with the triple presenter SNT set-up, the huge number of ATV programmes (many of which just repeated the same news), taking a minute to get to the headlines at the TOTH,, presenters marching around the studio for no real reason.

The music at the minute doesn't help with the TOTH. It's not dreadful but combine it with the minimalistic look and the TOTH is a bit of a non-event compared to the video posted above. I'm not saying the TOTH has to be 'bells and whistles' but you can have something that is still attention grabbing but also still all about the news.

For example, CNN International's TOTH for their news bulletins is very good. Snappy, great music and wonderful presentation

The issue with CNN though is actually finding the news bulletins amongst all the US simulcasts, sport bulletins and repeats.

It seems that new studio is being used right now? I thought it was just for Sunrise and overnight ?

Yes but the backdrop is slightly different to the one for overnights, it shows no red at the moment

Green dot still making an appearance at the TOTH. Checked on Youtube and Freeview and it appears on both. Seems to be faded out around 10 mins later.

I liked the presentation between 2002-2004 as well, it really was nice without taking away from the content. Plus I've gotta say Bob Friend (RIP) was one of the best at what he did.

Personally I know some here like it but the 2005 look seems incredibly dated for me and a little too many glitzy bits which is quite off-putting and detracts from the coverage - some of the shows were not the best and the triple presenter thing, the appointment to view stuff with the likes of James Rubin and the walking around to show off the studio was just needless and also I felt at times it became annoying and got in the way of the actual news as you've said and it wasn't until 2009 or so where that started to really be properly addressed - I just saw clips of Jeremy Thompson presenting from a balcony in a three way SNT in 2008 and it just looks stupid.

I think over 2009-2010 they gradually got things back on track when they removed that three way desk and then inserted the same desk as they have now at Millbank and redesigned the studio to similar to how it was at the very end (but initially had that silly stand-up desk that didn't last very long) and it worked pretty well - however in about 2013/4 they started to present everything from the desk, including press preview and Sunrise and stopped using the shoebox totally and gradually the creativity reduced more and more and we saw more and more white and less and less colour and flair. and everything felt very samey - really only Sophy Ridge on Sunday feels different these days and Ian King Live isn't bad, but honestly the presentation of Jeff Randall Live was much better.

The one good thing I'm glad that they kept over the years is the decision time music - however I don't expect to see it again which is a shame since that is music that really fits the coverage it is used for and is a perfect example of attention grabbing without taking away from the news.

I don't think Sky News presentation is bad now, it's just "meh"

I've watched a few TOTH in the past few days, most have been incredibly messy. Wrong images with the wrong straps, music cutting out, microphone/ sound issues and wrong transitions used - doesn't give a good impression.

I think you're wrong about the Sky News channel being gone in 5 years. However, I forsee it changing quite substantially. Outside of a shortened Sunrise, you'll see news bulletins at the top of the hour, and feature programming at the bottom of the hour. The kind of long form news programming that we see these days on Sky News will disappear.

You might see documentary series, stand alone documentaries, sports highlights, or programmes about style or technology, or various other programmes that would fit the half hour format.
