Shepherd Smith hired at CNBC after leaving Fox "News"

The new set debuted last night. Looked really good and serious. In NBC fashion it was well designed and modern and fit the tone of the broadcast. I didnt hate it.

Watched this show a few times this week - very refreshing approach, straightforward news without all the usual cable talking heads. For a US news programme, I like it a lot.

I prefer the Shep bulletin to the other impartial cable rival News Nation.

Watched the past two nights, I enjoyed the show, presentation, content, and set, but I wish it didn’t sound so echoey and shouty. Surely some acoustic treatment in the ceiling would help dampen some of the sound?

I love that CNBC has brought back 'The News', but i do wish they change that v/o at the start, very tacky and overly dramatic.

I caught it a few times in the last week and then flipped over to compare it to Nightly News. True to the show's original run, it's basically an expanded version of Nightly News. You see the same roster of reporters on the same stories. The difference is that the reporters do their tightly-edited PKGs on Nightly, whereas on CNBC, Shep will set the reporter up with a VOSOT before tossing to the reporter for a longer, purely live hit. There's quite a bit of the Shep flare in the writing, as well as in some of the segments (Around the World in 80 Seconds being an obvious import from his Fox show). It looks like they're also trying to differentiate the show in the back half with big interviews like Fauci and special reports like the one they did on air travel.

I wouldn't think twice about watching this show over anything else on cable – this is a newscast, plain and simple. That is a rarity in cable news these days.

It actually reminded me of Smith’s old newscast, The Fox Report, that would air at 7PM ET on Fox News, that was also a straight news bulletin. That was also the last hour of non-opinion programming for FNC before it's opinion hosts from 8pm-11 ET

Shep Smith was becoming the square peg in the round hole when he was at Fox News, it was only a matter of time before he left. I thought he would have waited until the end of the 2020 election cycle, but the problems at Fox News forced his hand.

Shep Smith to be has always been a shining light at Fox News when I used to watch the channel. He along with Chris Wallace and Bret Baier were really the only anchors that I felt were at least trying to give a "fair and balanced" news programme - well as fair and balanced as they were allowed to under the Roger Ailes management of the channel.

I fear though, that since Shep went to a business news network, he will be forgotten within a few months, especially if the presidency goes to Joe Biden, and the news cycle changes back to the dull normality of a presidency before this current administration.

If Shep had have went to MSNBC, another NBCUniversal owned channel, I think he would have done better. But I can see he was probably afraid of being buried in their schedule, as they have a lot of big personalities on MSNBC like Rachel Maddow.

I hope he does well - just a shame viewers in europe can not see his broadcast on CNBC Europe.

He'd have similar issues as he did at Fox News where he'd be in a minority of impartial anchors on a channel with a clear editorial bias.

Amazing that they used skype or zoom to link from one NBC studio to another.
