The RTE News Thread

I was told by RTE that they will be moving out of Studio 3 in "Mid-December", so it will either be this week, or this coming week will be the last one they will be in Studio 3. RTE said that the relaunch is due mid to late January 2019 depending on the progress of the works in Studio 3. They did not say where they were relocating too, probably Studio 2 or a small presentation studio at Montrose.

RTE News are still in Studio 3, but it looks like this will be the last full week that RTE News will be in the studio. RTE said refurbishment work is due to commence in Studio 3 in mid-December which places it starting next week.

A possible hint of what the new RTÉ News logo may look like from January 2019 could be logo showing on the right hand corner at the start of this news report on the RTÉ news twitter account. Suggests a possible a black and white color scheme. I suppose what is interesting is they have the current logo on upper left side of screen and another unseen logo in the upper right hand of the screen. It’s somewhat a bit of a branding overkill to be honest!

So, apparently this weekend is the last time RTE News will be in Studio 3, as the refit of the studio is apparently to begin next week.

RTE said the news would move into "temporary studios" from mid-December, so this would mean from Monday. I wonder what their temporary sets will look like?

I remember the 2013 revamp of ITV local news, and many regions had to relocate into their newsroom e.g. Granada, and some used green screen such as Meridian. I wonder what RTE News will have?

It’s just the current logo rearranged and without the blue line underneath. I suspect it’s just there to cover up someone else’s DOG and wouldn’t read anything into it.

Yep. It is in the same typeface as the current logo. It sort of looks like one of the current logos for ITV or Sky News when parts of the text is split at two different heights above one another. I honestly don't know why RTÉ would bother putting up an extra logo as there is already one placed on the Twitter videos anyway. It's an unnecessary mess & waste of time to have two logos on the screen as opposed to just having just one of them instead as it's a pointless exercise.

RTE news have finally vacated studio 3 for the studio revamp. The temporary studio debuted on the Six One this evening. The studio consists of a static version of the existing background. A large plasma screen to the side of the studio is used for the stand up sport news presentation. The news desk is the same one used on The Prime Time and Claire Byrne live set. Overall a pretty good version of the studio 3 set.

I thought Monday was the day to do this but now we are all wrong. The move out of Studio 3 began late last night. So it's a good thing to note that the last news bulletin on Friday night before the move out was read by Brian Finn. It looks good that the set appears to be in the same layout as Studio 3. There is a big virtual blue screen right behind the make shift set. The static background appears to be used with roller blinds behind the news desk.

Does anyone know which studio they have moved too? There are three very small presentation studios at Donnybrook, Studios 6, 7 and 8, would they be too small for RTE News?

From watching the clip would it be right to think they have moved into Studio 6? It does not look like they are using Studio 2 or 5 as those are reasonably larger than Studio 3, it does look like they are using the presentation studio with just two or three cameras.
