RTE has a very bad habit of reducing the amount of news output during the summer months. We are so close to July, as it is possible NewsFeed is off on holidays for a while.

Remember, RTE News reduce their One O'Clock News from 30 minutes to 15 minutes during late July and August, please they reduce their flagship Six One News from a hour to 30 minutes during all of August.

A mere two & a half minute bulletin, on holiday???

It's one thing to cut the Six One down, and a bit weird to also cut the One to 15 minutes, but I see no reason to give a 150 second Update, a holiday that started before the Confederations Cup.

Did this not go off the air last year as well? As JKDerry says it's a terrible habit of RTE to cut back on all kinds of broadcasting during the Summer but especially Current Affairs and News. However, they have gotten a lot better. Usually for 3 or so months back in the 80's the 6 o clock and 9 were reduced to 15 minutes Meanwhile over on RTE 2 the Newsnight programme that used to concentrate on international affairs that went out around 11pm would be replaced with News Headlines. Remember that Nothing ever happened internationally in June, July and August (and some of September) Very Happy

Just to add as this is a Presentation Site, The long RTE summer break meant that you always had a good idea when the News and other parts of RTE would get a refresh. It was usually in September and if you looked in the RTE Guide you'd see the bulletins were going back to normal length. That would be the time when new Graphics, sets and music would be introduced. Sadly up to the late 80's they were almost always a disappointment.

If it did, and honestly, I don't remember whether it did or didn't, but I wouldn't have thought it was this early. I thought it happened around the time of the Olympics, but came back a few weeks later. I might be wrong here, and I probably am. But still, I can understand why the Six One gets cut to 30 minutes during the summer season, but I see no need to cut a short Update for the summer.

No one will notice I would think. RTE 2 ratings have dropped like a rock in recent times. The short updates were only put on to cover RTE's back when they decided to cut the 11pm bulletin. I agree with you that it shouldn't be cut, but RTE tends to suit itself rather than looking at the bigger picture. Those under 35 are already going elsewhere for News, you can't blame them when the station that supposed to be aimed at them has no News content.

Just checking schedules and News2day, which is the kid's News bulletin isn't going out from Monday either so it's likely both are on a 2 month break... there's a chance that neither will return.

I was just watching News2day and they have a standard weather forecast at the end, with delivery that isn't really child friendly.

The article says it's part of a revamp of the bulletin. I've a feeling that RTE News will be getting a revamp in September. The revamp will definitely include a shake-up of Morning Ireland. That is certain.
Anyway, Dobo hasn't been on Six One for a while now. He didn't anchor coverage of the election of Leo Varadkar, which was odd for him, given he's the face of RTE News. It'll be sad to see him go.

There will be a male presenter to replace Bryan Dobson when he leaves for Morning Ireland. So, in my experience, that could be either Ray Kennedy or Aengus Mac Grianna to be his replacement because they currently have most of the experience from presenting the 6.1 news when Dobson is currently absent from the bulletin.

Will Dobson still become the head newsreader at RTÉ after this move to Morning Ireland?

Also the word 'revamp' by RTÉ in the print media of the 6.1 news is interesting. If that bulletin is going to be changed in some way; will it mean that RTÉ regards the current format of the bulletin to be out of date and needs a refresh of some sort? I know that I have to be careful with what I'm saying at this point because RTÉ may decide to keep the bulletin in it's current guise because RTÉ have tended to keep the current Six One format for a very long time.

But as we are discussing this on the internet; we have to be careful about what could take place in RTÉ News because the print media reports in Ireland do tend to be somewhat inaccurate or just showing the changes to be sensationalist & lacking in clarity.

It's been confirmed about the changes to Six One that Sharon Ní Bheólain will still be presenting it with Dobson's new replacement.

RTÉ News have relayed the wide angle shots of the virtual part of the newsroom again during the Six-One. It looks pretty good.
