It's simply a case of "Sangeeta ticks the boxes" despite being a most dreadful presenter (she'd be better suited to a job on QVC - not news)


Indeed, in my view she's best as a newsreader but if they're bringing in more feature-led style presentation then it's just going to be awful because, like you say, she is not a presenter!

I have no problem with Fred, he's been a stalwart of the South for more than 40 years, I just feel someone else would be better suited - but obviously I'm not getting into the old age discrimination issue. Wink

Bit of a shame they're splitting Fred and Debbie up -haven't they been pretty much continuous co-presenters since 1993 when Meridian launched? I never was keen on Sangeeta - from what I've seen Fred and Debbie have the best chemistry and seem to be popular with viewers - would've been better if they were kept together.

It's true they have co-presented for 16 years now a very strange decision to have Sangeeta, trying to think why...guess someone 'at the top' think she has that 'somehting' ?!

What a disaster for regional news and there's not one thing any viewer can do about it

I can't imagine any more out and about reports or chats from 'jolly' Gemma either, all considered far too frivolous

Talking of which what about the weather presenters guess most will get the chop ?

I really hope its not true that Sangeeta will be Fred's new co-anchor?! Shocked If so I shall definately not be watching it!

Regarding the weather presenters, well Martyn has the national job as well so he'll be ok, Gemma is a favourite with (male) viewers, so I guess Simon Parkin can go (he is rubbish anyway)... I don't know why they don't just do away with the regional weather presenters anyway & get the duty ITV presenter to record a forecast for each region, would save even more money... Oops if Grade is reading this it will probably give him ideas! Laughing

I could well believe this is true. Sangeta clearly has the least talent so she must be on the lowest wage. Very Happy As for Fred I think I have already said, I think he'll probably quietly leave once his contract is up. I can't say I am surprised at all.

Not on Meridian they don't... The only regional weather presenter who does reporting & other features round here is Georgie Palmer on South Today...

Sorry to see Debbie go as shes is a brilliant main anchor and a true professional. Will miss her and Fred's partnership. Rob ITV Meridian don listen! Its so ironic because they all it 'your programme' but they never actually listen to viewers!
