It's got ridiculous how far out of region they go these days. I suppose that's the problem when it's covering such a large area now.
But you'd expect the opposite surely ? If they can't find any stories from within the very large patch, it's piss poor they have to almost invent one to cover outside !
ITV News London have had packages on from other parts of the country if they're relevant to London. Mainly from the Anglia (where London doesn't cross over editiorally) and Central regions.

Yes Meridian sometimes has stories from London & West/Westcountry if in an overlap area (parts of Surrey, Dorset & Wiltshire for example) but this is different, it is a Meridian report, using a Meridian reporter filming an item that is not within the region. Sure it isn't
that
far out of the region, but West Bay/Bridport is firmly within the Westcountry region, so it seems odd they did this, unless Westcountry had planned to film it & couldn't? So Meridian did it instead & decided to just show it on Meridian anyway (assuming that it appears on Westcountry News as well)...
How is the newsroom backdrop for South East Today done? Midlands Today is (was) the only region with a newsroom backdrop, yet SET's backdrop isn't just a lightbox, as you can see people moving around. Is it just a rear-projection screen with some frosted glass in front to make it non-obvious, or something else?

It's a 'newsroom' of sorts, basically it's some desks they strategically placed behind the perspex screens, so it's fair to say South East Today and Midlands Today are/were the only regions with proper newsroom backdrops
SET's original set was essentially the newsroom itself. The desk was just at one end, with another presentation area in the middle. In 2003(?) they built the current set, enclosing it with some of the newsroom behind.

Err - Anglia and London regions do cross over editorially though. Essex is a border area, and stories about Stansted (which is in the Anglia region but one of London's airports) are of interest to both regions.
BBC London News regularly runs packages from Look East from those areas.
Both ITV and BBC London coverage areas stretch outside the M25 after all. Crystal Palace serves a lot of non-London viewers...

As I quite clearly stated, I said from areas which DON'T crossover with London. One story was from Northants with a tenuous connection to London.
I have no issue if London takes copy from Essex, Herts or South Beds where there is clear crossover.
