Are all the main English regions (minus opts) now HD?

HD:
Anglia
Central
Granada
London
Meridian
Tyne Tees
Wales
Yorkshire

Border (Same studio as Tyne Tees but no HD feed for that region yet)
Channel Television (HD capable, but no HD feed for that region yet)
Westcountry/West (I think is HD capable, but no feed)

I've still got ITV News Meridian on my EPG. Should I retune?

I think you should, I've found it doesn't automatically update on my box.

A bit of an update:
HD:
Anglia
Border
Central
Granada
London
Meridian
Tyne Tees
Wales
Westcountry/West
Yorkshire

It sometimes auto changes, but sometimes I need a retune.

Lucky you I say! The Meridian programmes are much more superior as you have the supberb Fred Dinenage as the main anchor.

If you say so, although I'd have thought getting the local news from your own region is the important thing for most ?

Is there any news on when Look East might get a set update/refresh/upgrade? The Norwich set in particular is beginning to look pretty dreadful with its scuffed desk and washed out screens. Not surprising though, it hasn't had a refit since 2009. It's also still using Aston rather than VizRT.

I wouldn't be surprised if Astons were replaced by something other than VizRT in the English regions that are still SD.

Salford, Plymouth, London and Cambridge got VizRT as part of a wider upgrade/relocation. The SD Astons that other English regions still have (Greens, Reds - possibly even Motifs or Mottos?) will be upgraded before full refurbs I expect. I wouldn't be surprised to see a much cheaper option being deployed as an SD interim.

I think they've looked at CasparCG and there is an in-house caption generator known as BigAlpha but I think it's had trouble getting support as it's an IT bit of kit rather than a technology bit of kit.

There are still plenty of Astons and yes, I know of at least one Motif and one Motto still soldiering on.

CasparCG runs the Singapore graphics, so I think it's slowly making it's way in.

For templates stuff, it suited perfectly, without the need for a Viz license of I think (and someone can correct me!) around £15k.

Someone told me recently BBC Cardiff are still using an Aston Red for Crimewatch's end credits !

A quick question, If I stayed in a hotel near Luton Airport, am I likely to find London or East/Anglia regional news on BBC1/ITV?

Luton should get Look East (West) x Cambridge and Anglia West. However I wouldn't be surprised if London was provided if it's a satellite source and they have the choice.
