Looks like it. Considering the circumstances of the Sky/ITN handover that made sense last time, but would have been better this week to keep the 5pm bulletin and have a double bill of Home and Away on Wednesday and a double bill of Neighbours on Friday.
Found out there was. 15min bulletin on Thursday before football at 5.
Thursday had the news schedules as normal - Friday had nothing. They even showed some Hollywood gossip thing at 6.55pm for five minutes rather than squeezing in a scheduled bulletin there.
Looking back after the last few weeks of football on 5, I wouldn't of expected a full bulletin today, but there is, 5pm programme is presented by Emma with no 6.30 edition today. At 6.30 there is the Inside Hollywood again. So 5 are giving a full (22min?) programme compared to BBC & ITV. Channel 4 also showing a full 7pm edition.
And since when has the last 5 news update of the day been branded '5 News Weekday'? Nice title.
C5 news scheduling at holidays has always been odd. I remember one year (2006?) when Christmas Day fell on a weekday they had the normal full length 5.30pm and 7pm bulletins
The supposed "5 News at 19.58" started slightly earlier after Cowboy Traders this evening. Is this normally the case or slightly beefed up as there was no 7 tonight?
Polly Whitehouse presenting 5News at 5, last week Emma presented both editions IIRC.
EDIT: Polly back at 6.30 too, is this a first for Polly presenting both main bulletins, I am pretty sure she presented FIVE News at 5 with... When Natasha was off and Matt not available.
I also recall that during the 1990's when NBC Super Channel was on air, you had the ITN World News at 5.30 am, presented by the very same presenter who was presenting the ITN Morning News on ITV at 5.30 am. Was the ITN World News pre-recorded at 4.45am or some other time in order to allow for the live ITN Morning News?
Wasn't the world news carried on ITV as well, as part of the Morning News? Or was it not shown on NBC Superchannel at the same time?
That would appear to be so, Brekkie. When all the ITV bulletins moved into Studio 1 in 1999, Studio 4 was then semi-vacated. As I recall, the overnight summaries and Morning News still came from 4 until mid-2000 when they had to vacate for the ITN News Channel. I still don't fully understand why the overnight stuff persisted from Studio 4 for so long after the 1999 revamp. The only thing I can think of is that Studio 4 is right next door to the ITV newsroom - maybe they wanted to keep things simple instead of continually going up and down to the basement?
Not only that but the 0530 continued to use the old mid-90s titles and set rather than trying to at least put some of the new branding on air. At a time when branding was becoming quite important and being talked about as more necessary in the new multi-channel world, it was very odd indeed. Perhaps there were some issues with using the basement studio overnight?
Wasn't the Overnight news service separately costed for a while? That might explain why they used a different studio. There was a change to the titles in 1999, when the old ITN Morning News graphic at the bottom was replaced by a ITV Morning News graphic. Looked really strange.
This didn't happen straightaway. But yes, it looked strange!
