For all the qualms with the BBC coverage, I think the new lower thirds work much better than the previous 2 (2008 and 2013-style) incarnations. Almost as if it was considered when they were being designed for general purpose news.

They did have graphics for individual declarations on the flipper as per below. The word "gain" would flash a few times for any gains, in a similar manner to "breaking" on the regular graphics.

Aha - in that case they're missing from the version on iPlayer for some reason, which just had the news website URL all night… (I'm guessing regions could have added their own too?)

Alastair Campbell was also a guest on RTÉ's coverage last Thursday with Bryan Dobson in London. I saw him there while I watched a small part of the RTÉ UK Election periscope live stream on Twitter. I don't how he appeared on both channels that night.

The BBC Scotland set up was more impressive than the London Network studio. The fact that the map was VR in Scotland looked a lot better than the silly map outside NBH.

The only thing from the video of the Scottish opening that was a let down was the section around the announcement of the Exit Poll. Lots of pausing and then just one chime from a clock.

I imagine it’s because the Pacific Quays HQ was likely designed with the fact that anywhere could be a studio.
strictly speaking, it was designed so they could broadcast from anywhere in the building (thanks to copious wallboxes). I'd argue that you need some soundproof walls and a lighting grid to be able to call it a studio Smile

I feel like they've made far better use of The Street than the architects probably originally envisaged - suspending giant screens and using it as a canvas for AR graphics has worked really well for them, though it took them a good five years of them occupying the building until they started to use it in such a manner.

It's only about half an hour from Riverside Studios to Westminster Live - probably less by taxibike. (It's one of few studio-to-studio hops you could do by speedboat, though that does seem unlikely.)

Agree. There is usually something I can pick fault with but these just seemed to work very smoothly.

Huw is another success of the night - just a shame he didn't get chance to shine on a traditional election set. The set was even a downsize on the Wales coverage he has previously hosted - just felt so disconnected from things.

That's a standard overlay to cover up the ticker/flipper and clock. Covering it up on the election programme is clearly a mistake.

Bit strange that Sky abbreviated Labour to LAB, but happy to have BREXIT and GREEN written out in full.
LABOUR can easily fit into that hexagon, surely?

I also think it's be better - at 10pm - to have a graphic that shows where all the parties stand in comparison to the majority post, like ITV does. I'm sure Sky can make a nice-looking version of it, instead of a simple bar chart.

Also, there's one small detail in the graphics that ITV and Sky should copy from the BBC: a little band of colour showing which party a seat has been gained from. It'd look particularly striking in Sky's lower thirds as the results come in.

Here's hoping that somebody leaks the clean audio for the Sky election!
