Whilst there were a lot of automation glitches there, I think some of the bloopers that were unrelated to the cameras and the automation will probably be forgotten when the next round of 'THE AUTOMATION IS RUBBISH WHERE ARE THE OPS PLEASE CAN WE JUST HAVE FIXED SHOTS' begins.

Exactly. As I understand it, Studio B is a more traditional studio and that had many glitches as seen in the reel.

Also, we don't seem to have had as many camera problems in recent months. Maybe the teething problems are disappearing.

But all the studio B glitches were automation, just not with the camera but the vision mixer/vt playout

Remember when Christmas tapes used to be full of presenters fluffing their lines and guests behaving unpredictably?

Yes, some selection of clips is in order I think, 13 mins of mainly cameras moving isn't really that entertaining or funny.

No outtakes from the field either, I suppose it is easier just to grab them from an off air recording then collect bits rushes

Interesting that Studio C has a more rounder studio then studio e, studio e has two screens on the right hand side but studio c had about six.

World uses more automation and no vision mixer although where it does differentiate is that it uses a person driving the lights and remote cameras plus a camera op on the floor whilst World channel has totally automated cameras, news channel has automated cameras although it does have an op who can correct any fault, once the fault has finished its move. The system does not allow manual override. The same applies to the sound desk where if something goes wrong, it has to finish going wrong before it can be corrected.

Is there any reason why, when cameras do start to go walkies, that the op couldn't cut to a different shot using the vision mixer rather than waiting for the move to finish? I assume there is a vision mixer panel in the gallery even though Mosart controls is most of the time.

What camera would they cut to? In most cases it'll be the only one pointing in right direction/frame and thus the easiest to get reframed as it should be.

There would usually be a wide shot on at least one of the five, wouldn't there?

Yes but no one is sitting at it. Usually when the cameras go moving they all do so at once. There is no lockout to prevent the on air camera moving.
