Not as impressive than I had hoped.

So it's the same look but the papers are appearing in augmented reality graphics within the studio rotating around the desk and over Clive's shoulder.

It doesn't really make the papers easier to see as they have to point the camera well out of shot for the articles of the papers to become legible on screen so you miss out on the guests talking anyway.

Not really a "rebrand", intro remains the same...

Nice that there's a reflection in the desk though

This would be nicer if the over the shoulder image was between Clive and the guests, so we're not looking at Clive listening to the guest while the camera zooms in.

VR stuff but nobody thought to update the titles, graphic on the straps or background in the studio - the background behind the guests features quite prominently the old Guardian masthead, whilst the graphic on the straps includes an old independent masthead (the second to last one they used before it went online), meaning it was out of date for a while even when the paper was in print!

Incidentally, how does the VR work? Is it using data from the camera about where it's positioned to place the graphics?

Oh dear, it's a no from me. Very pretty and clever (albeit with a couple of fuzzy/slightly overlarge keys), but it takes so long to zoom in and out (during which the VR elements wobble) of the front pages - which are then at a mildly infuriating very slight angle due to floating in 3D space instead of being 2D - that there seems little point displaying them at all.

And now as the camera drifts to the left, the floating snippet's perspective doesn't seem to align with the set (it might be mathematically correct, but it doesn't work aesthetically) and it's overlapping the glass surround that it's osensibly floating behind.

It's all too busy overlaying snippets - very tightly cropped in some cases - on the newsroom background.

AR - not VR Wink

(It's augmented not virtual)

AR is a subset of VR, really. AR is just VR with a real background taken into account.

We should call this a refresh instead of a rebrand.

It's nice that the Beeb have utilised the new graphics for this improved look although it doesn't improve the look of the programme very much. This type of software is normally used when displaying live twitter feeds on Afternoon Live. Correct?
