IIRC the MOTD studio is rented by the bbc as you said. What studios do the BBC actually own in Salford?
I don't think they actually own
any
of the facilities they use, although much of what they occupy is on a long term lease from
The Peel Group, while other facilities may be on shorter rental terms for specific programmes.
Perhaps Stuart is thinking of MOTD2 Extra which does come from the studio in the Sports Centre which isn't used for sport bulletins into the News Channel/World News.
I've checked the schedule for next week, and it was actually a repeat of MOTD (the programme shown before Marr) which I think comes from their main studio/set, which is quite a large and versatile studio by the look of it.
I think that the BBC own the production facilities (or their banks do) within the "BBC" buildings on long term lease from Peel (though they are staffed in a deal with The Farm). As such the BBC 'own' them and can operate them whenever they wish - subject to staffing. (If you take the "BBC don't own the building" analogy then you could argue that as ITN don't own Gray's Inn Road anymore, they don't own their studios either?)
The point I was making was that studio used for MOTD, Score, Focus etc. is neither owned nor operated by the BBC but is hired as a facility deal from Dock 10 a couple of days a week, and the set is designed for set/strike rather than as a standing set (as some of the previous TC5 designs were).
However unlike the old TC5 deal, which was a permanent buy-out 365 days a year (with occasional ad hoc use by third parties like RTE for the election etc.), Sport don't have access to an equivalent studio under the same deal in Salford.
So they can't just move Breakfast into the MOTD studio, as they don't own the studio (and haven't bought it out permanently)
