Ten Breakfast - Some laugh-out-loud moments in this clip, giving you a good idea of the program dynamic. Cue from around 2:00mins to the end of the interview with Ten's Amanda Hart where Paul compliments Amanda's lips, followed by Paul's hilarious perspective on a digitally altered image of the prime minister.

If the ABC had enough budget, could they bring local-specific news on ABC1, directly competing with commercial stations? Schedule I'm thinking of:

Arrow 6:00 pm: News and magazine for local area like commercial counterparts
Arrow 6:30 pm: State-wide daily news and current affairs
(Canberra and Tasmania take the whole hour from 6 pm, making it a super hour of news, magazine and current affairs)
Arrow 7:00 pm: National and international news presented by Juanita Phillips on weekdays. Broadcast live on ABC1 in every state and territory, and every edition is simulcast on ABC News 24 except for 7:30 pm AE(D)T edition.
Arrow 7:30 pm: The national current affairs, 7.30, as usual, but now extended to Friday evening thanks to 6:30 pm slot

What do you think? (Of course, if they have enough budget .)

Why would they though - the last thing they need to do is replicate what the commercial channels already do successfully.

Back to Ten and quite like their on screen graphics - seems to be quite a bit of info without it feeling too cluttered or intrusive.

I agree with Brekkie. One of the reasons public TV exists in the first place is that it doesn't have to (and shouldn't ) compete head-to-head with commercial TV channels for ratings.

Here's the thing about your ABC sked - ABC News already rates extremely well in its current form. Just the other night, ABC1 had the #1 news in Sydney and Melbourne. Any move to network its eight local 7PM newscasts into one national program would be an unequivocal ratings disaster. And if you want to move their newscasts to 6PM, you are then fighting for the 3 million or so viewers who are watching commercial TV news.

I arrived in Asutralia the day the new TEN Breakfast started. Thought it was a good show aswell as the "Circle" aswell. Although there was some controversy whilst i was in Oz about comments made about a serviceman.
