It's never been on a European beam as far as I can tell. Maybe it was testing on 8W European beam?

I get it fine on 20E.

Standards converted to 576i a friend tells me it can't be seen in widescreen in the US in SD.

The odd thing is that the position and frequency I used was on Lyngsat and it was KU band, so either it was temporary and that website has been updated or the dish I was using is much better than I thought!

As for the one at 20e, I think that is the transponder used for distribution from Doha (to local DTH uplinks). Though it seems odd that US is on there. As it's in 16:9 it's presumably coming from NY to Doha internally and then being unlinked from there for some reason

Do you still have the frequency in your receiver? That would be the easiest way to tell the beam it was on.

I didn't, but managed to find it again at the weekend on 26E on 11334 V. This time I looked into it a bit more and It is fairly weak. The only footprint I can find is for the ME and North Africa but it was recieved correctly in the UK.
As I say i was using a fairly large non-domestic dish so I suspect that's to my advantage, worth a try if you haven't already

I've never heard of Badr 5 reception in UK before, Well not in below 2M dishes.

As expected no signal on that frequency it probably needs a 9m special

Ha ha its fine I noticed Al Jazerra Arabic on 36e is in HD much better idents and graphics then Al Jazerra English.

Flint Skallen, who designed the AlJazeera Arabic set, have put some images of the set and newsroom for AJ London on their website... it looks fantastic.

I wonder how much of that glossiness will transfer into real life? It might look a bit less impressive without the sheen that render gives.
