So far I am aware of Ghosh, Barr, Omar, Pedrosa, Cole, Frost, Khan, Jordon, Rowland all joining AJE from either BBC, CNN or ITN.

I have lost track of the exact list of "known" names - who else has joined?

Andrew Simmonds (reporter) - ex-ITN and ex-BBC, joined from BBC.
Teymoor Nabile (presenter) - ex-BBC World, but been elsewhere for a while.
Barnaby Philips (reporter) - ex-BBC and joined from BBC.

I wonder if the mix of countries and cities on location astons is either a mistake, or a decision to use the text most revealing to the audience.

They are using Jerusalem not Israel, Tehran not Iran, Washington not USA.

They use Darfur rather than Sudan, and Harare not Zimbabwe.

However when they are in a location that people may not have heard of, they use the country not the more local description - presumably to avoid having to use "Chipping Sodbury, Great Britain" as a locator.

Perhaps, but I reckon most people know where Moscow and Beijing are, and they went for Russia and China.

Certainly looks the part, though. So far seems to be a very interesting product.

Thought the decision to lead with 'Israeli woman killed by Gaza rocket' might be an attempt to prove a point, though. Not the top story on CNN or BBC World that i've seen.

Will be interesting to see how it develops. Promising start.

Yep - could also be a mistake!

(I've seen some UK broadcasters use "Scotland" as a locator before now...)

Their Business Update does not follow convention. Usually when showing exchange rates, the currency pair is usually ordered with the strongest currency compared to the weaker, eg Euro - Dollar, Dollar - Yen etc. That way the value is always >1. In their Business Update however they ordered the currency pair with US$ always first - which should not be the case when compared to such currencies as the Euro or Pound Sterling.
