Sky used to have a vibrant and exciting branding for it's flagship channels, which has recently been dulled down. It's now just poor (IMO) idents around their programming and lifestyle, when other Sky channels can do it so much better.
My first port of call - channel logos. Bring them into line with each other, and into line with the European logos. A new gradient, whilst retaining a nice glossiness. Some channels get new colour schemes (see Sky 3D or Sky Arts), Sky Living gets a new logo (that I'm not completely sure about) and numbers have become words, to bring them into line with the European way of doing things.

With new logos comes new idents. So far, I have focused on Sky One, and using that as a base for other channels. Perhaps reminiscent of the Sky Onc era, these idents form quickly and remind people what channel they're watching.
People use Sky+ now to see what's up next. IMO, long idents are redundant. These idents would last the same length as the Sky Uno (Italy) idents, with the bars 'whooshing' into place until they form this spinning circle. The circle flys off to the side, leaving the Sky One logo. That logo could stay there for a long time, if there is need to announce something.

The endboards continue the circle 'motif', where the bars will slowly move around until they once again fly off, leaving the logo.

This would be replicated for Sky2, but in different colours:

That's all for now, but hopefully you can see where I'm taking this. Thanks for reading, and tell me what you think!
Update: Pictures should be fixed. I'll upload them to Metropol once my account over there is activated
Update 2: Animation for the endboard:
