FURTHER UPDATES - see page 2

Looking back on my previous news studio recreations (using 3D Studio Max 9 - not the most glamorous piece of software, I'll admit...), it's a wonder they got at least three stars - they seem so terrible... poor desk size, harsh lighting, rough rendering... and so on.

Well, still using 3ds Max 9, I've been trying to (over the last month or so) recreate the studio set used for News at Ten between 1992 and 1999. I'm still not exactly finished with it, but I'd thought I'd post two screenshots here and see what everyone thinks of it so far. I still have more to do on it... adding that world map onto the "tiled" background, so on.

(And by the way - I know the 1992 set had more of those tiny monitors, I've just based my recreation on News at Ten bulletins from 1996 and 1997).

Please do let me know what you think of my recreation so far, and let me know whether it's worth continuing, etc. Thanks...

Pretty darn accurate - with the changes you've mentioned, it'll be even better.

I'll give you four for that.

Throw some more light on the desk, though. Help it pop off the background.

Good stuff.

Top marks from me.

That's a damn good recreation.

I like it very much!
The only problem is I like both mock and real pictures and would be happy to see News At Ten revamp this way, in reality.

Never expected I'd get this sort of response! Thanks guys, your comments are very much appreciated - at the moment I'm making the aforementioned tweaks to the set (more desk light, world map, etc etc), hopefully I'll be able to provide images tomorrow.

Once again, many thanks for the positive response!

Only Sir Trevor is missing from your mocks!! Otherwise, excellent. I liked that NaT set, by the way. Ahead of it's time.

I don't usually get the point in people recreating existing studios but these are very well done - and indicate to me what indeed could be done with the current virtual ITV studio if they put their mind to it, not for News at Ten (that set is fine), but for the rest of ITV News. It really is as simple as just having a simple backdrop with a screen at the side - that's pretty much all they need.

Good thinking. Hey, Nicky, any chance of one with an ITV News theme?
