So here is a recreation in HD of the Midlands Today 1984 titles, version 1 - I didn't have much stock footage to hand

Very good! Alan Hawkshaw's Technicolour was re-recorded by a viewer of Midlands Today and used until the revamp around 1991. Apparently he thought the original version was dull and needed livening up - absolutely true. Not sure what Alan Hawkshaw thought of that!

The remix is used in the coming up trailer in this video - very techno!

I am partial to a bit of technicolour, but it doesn't go anywhere!

Unless my ears are deceiving me, was Alan Hawkshaw's Technicolour later remixed as the various themes used by the 3 Northern regions (North, North West & North East) in the 1990s?

It certainly sounds as though it has the same elements, although I must admit I am not very talented when it comes to music . . . Shocked

To me, the BBC logo wasn't introduced in the title sequence until 1991 or so.

It wasn't, you're right - that was my way of trying to 'modernise' it. There was also a second version of the titles used around 1986 which had a lighter blue background and lights...

Brilliant mock. Especially the '91 BBC logo.

There was actually a complaint featured on Points Of View about the re-recorded Midlands Today theme of that era. And then the following evening Midlands Today ran a feature about being featured on Points Of View.

I may still have this on VHS in the loft. Must dig it out sometime.
