The above are all examples from various mock threads started over the past few days. All of them in my personal opinion are total utter ****. I know it’s the summer holidays (not for much longer thank god!) and all the kiddies have joined the forum to play which is fair enough if you have a keen interest in the media, we were all young once.

But why exactly does that mean everyone can go in paint/powerpoint whatever **** application that has nothing to do with graphic design and post utter rubbish “Because I was bored” Being bored is not a reason so create crap. If you must make a mock take time, put in more then 5mins effort think about why you are doing it, who will watch it, would it work on TV is it an improvement on the real thing?

None of the above (just a sample I got from the main index) qualify as even remotely broadcast-able. The main forums are moderated and controlled to some degree but this one seems to have gotten out of hand.

It used to be quite interesting looking at other people ideas and talents, MoD, AJ, MDTA, Ashfish to name a few, generally creative people. Now it’s full of junk. What is going on!?

It's not what you use but the way that you use it. Sounds like an excuse to repost this I made with paint when we had a thread about making mocks in Paint on here once:

Some of the mocks on here haven't really been thought about before hand and have just been done out of boredom and then the artists [sic] get offended when people criticise.

Awww - thanks for naming me Embarassed

Aside from that, I completely agree with this sentiment. This last fortnight complete and utter tripe has been posted in this forum and it is getting out of hand.

One way to solve it would perhaps be for Asa to install a photo album mod on the forum somewhere, and give one album to each member who has proven that they have at least some creative ability. Thus, the Mock Designs forum could become something of a Proving Ground.

Okay, maybe it's not such a good idea, but I ask all of those who have submitted a mock recently - Why have you done it? Would you really want to see your design on TV?

It is a shame that this forum has declined so much this year, but alas the little "treasures" are back to school this week & next, so hopefully they'll have plenty of homework to do and they'll stop flooding the forum with crap.

EDIT:

Absolutely - I use a combination of PowerPoint XP and PSP8 to create my designs (shock horror!), which I find easy to use, and I *usually* produce results I'm pleased with.

Well Im 13 and i have good software (fireworks, flash, 3D CANVAS, cARRARA) and some of my mocks i find good. Can i just say that I started off with paint/powerpoint but every one progresses after that. I think we should have a forum for new mock makers to start with their talents!!! Just give them a chance. Bail, can i say. When you started mock making you werent great, possibly. Give the new kids a chance, but on a different forum!!!!

You are correct, when I first started my mocks were worse than something really bad, but I didn't post them because I knew they were bad.

Age has nothing really to do with this, some people I know of 13 and younger are very talented (not mocks but painting and stuff). Also having flash or whatever high end app you've downloaded still doesnt mean you make good mocks, its what you do with them, likes Bens balloon in paint, thats paint but you can tell waht it is, unlike some recent mocks. So I don't agree and I won't give them / you a chance anymore.

This is pretty much my first ever mock, never posted because it was just a re-creation not a mock and isn't really very good, made in powerpoint yes but its rubbish by my standards, even then.

I remember I made a BBC World mock (which at the time, looked good, but now, utter tripe) which you, Bail, though was excellent, and asked for a South Today version... Everyone progresses, which is what you have to learn. bail, you used to make rubbish mocks a long time ago, but look at what you're doing now. I also remember you asked for a hayling today swf, and I made one - you were so amazed by how it was created. However, you can now make a flash screensaver, something which I'm can't do.

this forum was dominated by the likes of mdta, mromega2000 before talent such as mrtomservo came about, and Ministry of Design later on etc. I dare not post anymore mocks because I know I can't compete with the likes of these people. My talents are only at Macromedia Flash, not photoshop, illustrator, or adobe premiere. If asked however, to rustle up a quick mock, I could do that, and it would be a darn few better than the ones I have seen here.

However people, please try to look at your work before you post them...and if you think they're crap, don't post it here otherwise you'll get slaughtered. You have to consider whether they look good on tv or not...

btw, weather man, your mocks aren't particularly that great...

Yeah, come on all you beginners. If it ain't any good, don't post it! Can it get any simpler than that! For god sake, I am twelve years old and I didn't start posting on here until my mocks were up to scratch.

Yes, I'll just repeat that - I am twelve years of age.

If this is true, why are you sat in front of a computer screen at 11 o'clock at night, when you are twelve years old?

That is shocking, frankly.

Your parents must be terrible. Seriously, no child of 12 should be a) up at 11pm and b) sitting at a computer at said time.

Fourteen and twenty to twelve, sir. Laughing

Privately educated, lying in in the mornings (taping GMTV) and loving it, so don't you dare question the way I've been brought up like you have towards TML and I will start to turn nasty... [mentions of flava beans coming up...]
