That pesky Yank import Halloween (and our health and safety police) might be killing it off, but here's one place where Guy Fawkes Night is alive and well:

STORYBOARD: A group of 18-25s at a large organised bonfire party with a large bonfire. They gaze up at the fireworks above. One man is handed a sparkler with which he draws a circle shape. As he does so, the rest of the action, and his face, vanishes into the "vortex" formation as illustrated. Variants have coloured trails in the circle or flames behind the BBC ONE logo.

Music: As "Neon/Saturday Nights"

STORYBOARD: Extreme C/U of the contents of a box of fireworks. The lid is brought down - and lo and behold there's a 2-shaped window! Disembodied hands stack the box upright, as would be displayed in a shop.

Music: As "Cappucino"

Admittedly the BBC2 graphics leave much to be desired but try finding a photo of a firework box with a 2 in it... You may also have noticed the classic Gill Sans subtitles aston; largely because it looks neater, but mainly because I don't have the current font. Any assistance you can give me in this direction would be greatly appreciated and I'll probably be able to organise a reciprocal something... Laughing

I see the Telewest font used for "Subtitles"

They're really nice, and I would love to see them animated. Well made too.

Well done Simon.

Thanks! Animation for BBC1 might be a bit difficult considering a single still was used, and while BBC2 is almost 100% flash, bringing the storyboard to life is out of my league.

I would like to see on the BBC more idents for occasions, so I like these attempts and they would probably work well for them.

Well it's already starting to happen with Neon (Saturday nights). That in itself could be a Bonfire Night ident.

I am half expecting idents for Bonfire Night and so on, if not BBC1 then at least BBC2.

Whats so important about fireworks night for it to warrant idents. Its a non-event and not worth the expenditure...

At least Christmas is a longer season of idents, and more of an event to stay in for...

Rant over, not too bad graphics, BBC 2's is bad though

Nothing 'warants' them, but they're nice, in my opinion, to have. There needn't be much of a cost if it's CGI.

Yeah, great love them, it all depends how they will look on screen and animate. Smile

In fairness, the BBC2 idea is a particularly contrived situation but I'll concede I'm not the best artist where Flash is concerned.

It's a sad state of affairs when "cost" has to be the determining factor in a special ident. Yes it would never happen in the real world. But this being a mocks forum I thought the idea was for individuals to play head of pres?

And it's my view that Guy Fawkes Night would be more deserving of a special ident because it's part of British culture; Halloween (in its present form) is not. Even as recently as ten years ago, Guy Fawkes Night was a big event which people looked forward to for weeks - then the "no win no fee" lawyers were deregulated and insurers got greedy.
