It gives me great pleasure to showcase a new set of mocks I've developed as a contributor to The TV Room+ and its relaunched TV Mocks site.
I've tried to develop a bold, edgy new look, embracing some elements of the previous and current BBC News look, while expanding the colour palette. What I wanted to do was offer a distinctive new direction for the BBC's domestic and international news channels, whose presentation has, I think, become old and stale as it tries to conform to a very narrow design concept.
They're great designs Mr Q, as always, but just way too busy looking and very 'American' in their design. Americans drive the English as crazy as us Aussies so something with more of a European feel would be better. Like I said though I love the design and the colours you've used, it just doesn't suit the Beeb that well though. 9/10 though!
They are very nice, not denying that, but I don't think they would suit the BBC. They seem too 'American'. They may have suited the ITV NC, but I just can't see them on the BBC though. But as said, they are certainly one of the best mocks posted here recently.
Wow! These are stunning and seem to follow a sense of progression in the BBC brand from the original 1999 titles, to the current set - they seem to be the sensible progression! You've retained some of the circles and bands but developed it with the parallelogram theme which is really strong.
For me, the font works really well - is it the same as BBC Sport's? I can picture these animating, but how would you say they'd go?
Well-executed design with the set clearly holding together with a strong brand but individuality of the different elements, eg breaking news and top stories, allowing them to be easily identified. I also love the combination of red and orange - also with the white. An exciting and dramatic theme, yes, slightly American, but the depth and richness of some of it also lends the set a sense of Britishness. Indeed, the parallelograms seem to nod back to the days of the slanting BBC logo.
Some say they can't see this on the BBC - but think of the major change the beige and red titles were - and also the electronic music which you'd never have expected. These seem to follow in a logical sequence.
I personally generally don't like the 'cool' lowercase look. This is just one of those pet hates. You know I could end up going down the 'it is not you, it is me' route. 'ITV' did it though.
It would grow on me.
I do really like the straps and the layout of the graphics - they're really excellent. I also like the DOG.
But I'm afraid I'm not really keen on the titles - in particular, the colours you've chosen, and the right hand side of the images, which look like a bit of a mish-mash to me. It's the same old story, but they are too American for my tastes.
