Why is it more economic to buy to buy 2 months worth of movies (@£7.50/month effectively) than 3 months (@£8.33/month effectively)?

Agreed seems peculiar. Maybe a pricing error on the announcement. Not yet seen the actual cards, just the Argos visuals, which might be mocked up and wrongly priced.

Have just asked in local Currys. None in stock so can't verify.

GAME's NOW TV page is now up.

Same strange pricing for the Movies passes on the Game website.

I've just bought me a Now TV box, in the Currys PC World sale, have to say I'm pretty impressed with it.

I can use the playto app to stream recordings from my PVR in another room to the TV that the Now TV box is plugged into, which is handy.

Sky are considering removing NOW TV from YouView on BT and TalkTalk next August.

As it stands, Now TV on Youview is nothing but a joke. The Now TV app itself only provides access to movies on demand (no live Sky Movies), whilst Sky Sports is available but it is provided outside of the app in the normal Youview EPG (the various Sky Sports channels appear twice, once for BT/TalkTalk customers and a second time for NowTV). The entertainment pack isn't available at all.

This has been previously attributed to Youview's lack of support for Unicast streaming, which Now TV relies on to deliver live channels. The sports channels with their pricey per-day/week offering were obviously considered big enough revenue earners to justify paying for them to go in the EPG, whilst the deals they have with content providers for the entertainment pack will not allow the on-demand part of the service to be carried if live channels are not, hence Now TV on Youview has always been limited to sports and on demand movies only, and Youview is the only platform crippled in this way.

This did change recently and Youview does now support Unicast which should have opened up the possibility of a 'normal' Now TV app with the full service available.

I would imagine this is a bit of a make-or-break push from Sky to get a proper Now TV app on Youview.

However, the idea of Now TV being on Youview *at all* was based on the idea of it being an open platform. As it has essentially morphed into BT's and Talktalk's pay platform, both of which offer everything on Now TV directly (albeit not in the same packages or pricing), it wouldn't surprise me if Now TV does just go. The idea of my being able to view Sky One and MTV via Now TV on a Talktalk supplied Now TV box rather than paying Talktalk directly for those channels seems an unlikely proposition...it would be like being able to use a Sky Box to access a Virgin Media subscription.

I imagine the Sky Movies linear channel usage on NowTV is absolutely tiny given all(?) movies are available on demand. There really is very little reason to use them.

At least on Sky you have the advantage of them being available instantly (rather than the minute or so you have to wait sometimes for stuff to become playable on the Sky+HD box). On NowTV the buffertime would be almost identical.

Even on the NowTV/Roku box the channels are pretty well hidden behind all the on demand content.

BT and TalkTalk don't offer Sky Atlantic, which would give NOW TV an advantage if the Entertainment pack was offered to their customers.

If you compare TalkTalk's TV Starter pack to NOW TV:

TalkTalk TV Starter Pack £5.

Sky1, Sky Living, Sky Livingit, Sky Arts 1, Sky Sports News HQ (SD version).

NOW TV Entertainment pack - £6.99 or £5pm with a NOW TV Entertainment pack gift voucher for £15 or £25.

Sky1, Sky Living, Sky Arts 1, Sky Atlantic, GOLD, Fox, Comedy Central, Discovery, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr, ITV Encore, Disney Channel, MTV and catch up services from each channel alongside ABC Studios back catalogue.

NOW TV's entertainment pack would damage TalkTalk's own tv offering if allowed through their YouView boxes.

There have been a tiny amount of films which aren't On Demand, such as some of the films on Sky Christmas which I've had to watch live.

Currys currently selling boxes with either

2 month Movies
3 month Entertainment
or
2 Sports Day Passes

for £14 each.

The Movies and Entertainment offerings cheaper than the PAYG cards which still have yet to appear in Argos or Dixons-Carphone stores. A spare box obtained in the bargain.

EDIT

Argos doing the same for £13.
