Have a look for a bit of software called get_iplayer. It allows you to download programmes from iplayer or record PVR style. It's command line based but once you get the hang of it it's fairly easy...

What you do when setting up a TV

Just a Sky HD box. So not 4K. However I have a BT 4k box (previously) and Netflix 4K. The image is better than HD but its not as crisp as the other TV. It's hard to explain. It's a Samsung UE40HU6900....

I'm glad I'm able to have Kodi and SBMC on the Fire TV. Some addons aren't compatible with Krypton still. So for now, I'll use SBMC for some and Krypton for others which work beter.

Interestingly the Digibit R1 SAT>IP tuner I've been using for a while (which has 4 x DVB-S/S2 tuners in it and 4 x LNB inputs - but they are matrixed to the tuners to allow for additional flexibility)...

There are lots of simple hardware solutions - but would need to check the specific formats of the files you want to play. MediaInfo (available for Mac and Windows) will tell you more than enough...
